Firebase Studio is a browser-based cloud development environment for building, testing, prototyping, and deploying full-stack web applications, APIs, backends, mobile projects, and AI-enabled apps. It combines a Code OSS-based IDE with customizable Nix environments, Gemini assistance, templates, emulators, previews, debugging tools, and Firebase and Google Cloud integrations. The product fits solo developers and teams that want AI-assisted development in a web workspace, particularly when their applications already use Google Cloud services.

The published access model is straightforward: Firebase Studio is available at no cost, and existing workspaces can continue to be accessed and managed. Its feature set covers the main stages of a prototype, including project import from source control, local archives, and Figma; multimodal app prototyping; built-in web and Android previews; emulation; testing; debugging; and Lighthouse audits. Workspace sharing adds collaboration, while access control supports shared workspace management. Gemini can assist with code, generate code, run tests, and execute tools. These capabilities make Firebase Studio a fit for rapid full-stack exploration rather than a narrowly focused code editor.

Its strongest ecosystem advantage is the path from workspace to deployment. Projects can connect with Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Firebase App Hosting, Firebase Hosting, Cloud Run, Google Maps API, Google Cloud Secret Manager, and Gemini Developer API. However, the product has a short operating horizon: new workspace creation and new user signup have been disabled since June 22, 2026, and Google plans to shut down Firebase Studio on March 22, 2027. Existing workspace access continues during the transition, with migration recommended to Google AI Studio or Google Antigravity. Choose it for eligible existing workspaces and near-term Google Cloud prototyping; choose a longer-lived environment for new projects or larger workloads.
