FARO RevEng is desktop software for capturing 3D point clouds, generating and editing meshes, and creating CAD-ready surfaces. It is aimed at industrial design, product engineering, replacement-part development, rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and related manufacturing work. Its clearest fit is teams working with supported FARO ScanArm devices that need a path from physical measurement to repaired meshes, surfaces, and downstream CAD files.

The software’s strongest area is its reconstruction workflow. It supports direct point-cloud capture from selected FARO ScanArm and FaroArm configurations, along with imports for PC, ASC, XYZ, PTS, E57, NPTS, VTX, PCS, and PWN point-cloud files. Mesh inputs include STL, PLY, OBJ, OFF, OM, GLTF, and GLB. Point-cloud registration and alignment, automatic mesh optimization, mesh fixing, smoothing, hole filling, simplification, offsets, shell generation, and grid management cover the main preparation stages. NURBS surface creation with editable control points adds a more specialized reverse-engineering step.

RevEng also supports watertight mesh export for 3D printing and STEP export for downstream CAD workflows, giving it a useful breadth across capture, repair, surface creation, and delivery. The trade-off is ecosystem fit: direct capture depends on supported FARO hardware, while the listed platform support is Windows 10/11. Pricing is handled through sales, although FARO states that RevEng is complimentary with new CAM2 Scan Professional or CAM2 Expert purchases and is also available as a standalone product. Choose RevEng when FARO ScanArm capture and mesh-to-CAD work are central requirements; consider another tool if you need broader platform support or a public self-serve pricing model.
