For animation, visual-effects and game-production teams working from recorded facial-performance video, Faceware Analyzer is a desktop tool for markerless facial tracking. It analyzes expression and texture, as well as eye and gaze movement, then parameterizes the results into FWR performance files for Faceware Retargeter. Its focus is specialized: studios seeking facial-animation data from video may find the workflow relevant, while teams needing body or hand capture will need a different tool.

The workflow includes training frames with landmark markup, plus Intelligent Drag landmark placement to support tracking work. Analyzer is non-real-time, so it is designed around recorded performance rather than live output. Its exports are aimed at a Faceware pipeline: motion data can be loaded into Faceware Retargeter, and the listed integrations include Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max and MotionBuilder. That gives teams using those tools a defined route from tracking to character animation, although FWR is the stated export format.

According to the vendor's pricing page, Analyzer 3 Studio costs $299 per seat per year, billed annually, for high-quality, low-volume tracking. Studio Plus costs $1,749 per seat per year and adds high-volume tracking, global tracking models and batch/API processing. A 30-day free trial is available. The higher tier is the more fitting option for studios automating or processing larger volumes; smaller-volume facial work aligns with Studio. Choose Analyzer when markerless facial tracking and its Retargeter-oriented workflow suit the pipeline. Look elsewhere if real-time output or full-body capture is central to the project.

Faceware Analyzer pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Tracks facial expression, texture, eyes and gaze without markers.
    • Training frames and landmark markup support tracking refinement.
    • Studio Plus adds global models and batch/API processing.
  • Where it doesn't
    • Tracks facial performance, not body or hand motion.
    • Processing is non-real-time.
    • Motion data is parameterized into Faceware's proprietary FWR files.
