ezmlmx review
A focused ezmlm refactoring for admins who can work around nonworking database backends.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
For administrators managing mailing lists on qmail-like mail transfer agents, ezmlmx refactors ezmlm and ezmlm-idx with list setup, subscriber management, digests, and archive publication. It is a narrow fit for solo operators and small teams who want to run the software on their own Unix system and are comfortable with compatible mail-server environments. Its command-line tools and man pages suit administrators who prefer to manage lists close to the server rather than through a hosted service.
The feature set covers routine list operations as well as moderation: subscribers can be added or removed automatically, digest lists are supported, and posts can require confirmation or moderator approval and rejection. ezmlmx can also publish indexed mailing-list messages on the web. A CGI module with FastCGI support is included. This breadth makes it relevant where archives and moderated discussion matter alongside basic list delivery, but it remains centered on mailing-list administration rather than broader campaign management.
Deployment fit is the main constraint. The published instructions cover notqmail and s/qmail, and listed integrations also include IndiMail. The Unix filesystem backend is available; MySQL and PostgreSQL are listed but not yet working, and the releases are labeled beta. The software is distributed as a downloadable package, with free status inferred from the package and no stated price. Small self-hosters using compatible systems may find the feature mix appropriate if filesystem storage fits their needs. Teams that depend on working database backends or want a hosted, non-qmail-dependent service should look elsewhere.
