EZbass is Toontrack’s bass instrument software for songwriters, producers, and music makers who need bass parts for a song. It combines modern and vintage sampled bass instruments with bass MIDI grooves, and can generate basslines from drum or keyboard MIDI. The standalone application is also available as a plug-in, so it can fit into a songwriting process that starts with MIDI, recorded audio, or performance from a MIDI controller. Its focus is specific: this is for making and shaping bass parts, not a general-purpose virtual instrument collection.

The feature depth centers on turning ideas into editable performances. Tap2Find helps match grooves, while the Song Track provides a place to arrange and edit performances. The Grid Editor gives control over articulation, timing, velocity, and notes. Audio Tracker converts audio performances into MIDI, and the instrument includes effects and tuning controls. Finger, pick, slap, and pop articulations cover several bass-playing approaches. These tools make EZbass relevant both when a songwriter wants a starting groove and when they want finer control over a generated or converted part.

According to the published plan, EZbass costs $179 USD as a one-time purchase and includes two sampled bass instruments, a bass MIDI library, Audio-to-MIDI conversion, Grid Editor, and the standalone application. There is also a 10-day trial, but no free plan. It runs on Windows and macOS and lists integrations with DAWs including Ableton Live, Cubase, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, REAPER, and Studio One. Choose it if bass-specific groove generation and editing are central to your workflow; look elsewhere if you need instruments beyond bass or a free plan.
