Exo is an open-source desktop email client for macOS, designed for people who want AI assistance alongside local email access. It currently connects to Gmail accounts and supports multiple accounts with instant switching. Its feature set covers everyday email work, including priority classification, AI-generated replies based on thread context and writing style, sender lookup with role, company, and LinkedIn context, rich-text composition, inline images, attachments, scheduled sending, and undo send. A Cmd+J agent palette provides an interface for email actions and queries, while persistent AI memory can retain preferences and workflows.

The product’s strongest fit is its combination of local and cloud-connected workflows. Exo supports offline use with queued sends and actions, plus hybrid search across local data and Gmail. A calendar sidebar can display events from connected Google Calendar accounts, with multi-account synchronization. Gmail and Google Calendar are the central ecosystem connections, while Anthropic API is one configured AI-provider option. Runtime-installable extensions and MCP server support add room for customized workflows, although the integration footprint is narrower than products built around a broader range of services.

Exo is free and open source, with no paid tier structure described. Users should expect to supply their own Gmail access and AI-provider credentials, making configuration an important part of the setup. Mac users who want offline support, local email data, AI-assisted triage, and Gmail account management should find the feature mix well aligned with those priorities. It is less suitable for people who need Windows or mobile apps, non-Gmail account support, or a wider set of built-in integrations.
