EmailEngine is self-hosted software for applications that need programmable access to existing Gmail, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, and IMAP mailboxes. Its unified REST API covers reading, searching, synchronization, folder management, attachments, and sending through provider APIs or SMTP. That makes it relevant to SaaS products, CRMs, support systems, email clients, and AI agents that would otherwise maintain separate mailbox integrations. The product supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, API, and self-hosted deployments, with OAuth2 authentication for Google and Microsoft accounts.

Its strongest distinction is breadth across mailbox operations rather than a narrow focus on outbound delivery. Real-time webhooks report new mail and mailbox changes, while stored Handlebars templates, mail merge, message filtering, SMTP gateway routing, and bounce detection extend the API beyond basic message access. Integrations include Gmail, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, IMAP, SMTP, Microsoft Graph, Redis, Slack, Discord, Zapier, and n8n. MCP server access also provides a path for AI agents that need mailbox functions. Choose EmailEngine when provider coverage and inbound mailbox control matter as much as sending.

The published annual plan costs $1,450 per year and includes unlimited connected mailboxes, unlimited instances, unlimited API calls and webhooks, all features, and updates during the subscription period. An enterprise perpetual license adds offline verification, invoice or wire payment, and custom contract and license terms. A 14-day full-function trial is available, but there is no free plan. Because deployment runs on infrastructure an organization controls and uses Redis for storage, it suits teams prepared to manage self-hosted software. Teams seeking only a general-purpose email sending API, or a lower-cost entry plan, should consider a narrower alternative.
