eCADSTAR review
Configurable schematic, PCB layout and analysis tools for electronics design teams.

eCADSTAR is Zuken’s PCB design software for electronics engineers and PCB designers. Its scope spans schematic capture, PCB layout and library management, with online access to electronic component vendors. The product is aimed at teams that need connected ECAD work rather than a tool centered on industrial electrical design. A 30-day full-featured evaluation provides a way to assess the software before choosing a license.
The core workflow combines schematic and physical design: users can work with hierarchical, reusable schematic blocks, route PCB layouts and produce manufacturing outputs. Libraries cover symbols, footprints, parts and design rules, while design variation management carries alternatives across schematic and physical design. The SPICE Controller supports analog simulation using LTspice. Depending on the applicable bundle, 2D/3D design includes collision, creepage and clearance checks; signal-integrity, power-integrity and IBIS-AMI analysis are available as options. This modular range suits PCB teams that want to select analysis capabilities around their design needs.
Connectivity is a notable part of the fit: eCADSTAR links to LTspice and online parts sources including Allied Electronics & Automation, Arrow, Digi-Key, TME, Mouser Electronics and RS, as well as SamacSys, SnapMagic and Ultra Librarian. Zuken describes it as local client software with internet services, and Windows is the listed platform. Engineer is offered in node-locked and network variants, with schematic and library editors, SPICE Controller, online part-vendor access and design variation manager in both. Subscription or perpetual licensing is supported. Teams focused on PCB design, connected parts research and configurable analysis should consider it; those seeking a product centered on industrial electrical design should look elsewhere.
eCADSTAR pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Combines schematic capture, PCB layout and library management.
- Offers LTspice-based analog simulation and design variation management.
- Connects to component vendors and downloadable parts libraries.
- Where it doesn't
- Its verified focus is PCB design, not industrial electrical design.
- Signal- and power-integrity analysis are optional capabilities.
- The 30-day evaluation is temporary; there is no free plan.
