/e/OS is an open-source mobile operating system based on Android and LineageOS/AOSP, designed for people who want an Android app environment with less reliance on Google services. It replaces Google services with microG and alternatives, while offering its own open-source apps and App Lounge catalog. Compatibility with Android apps makes it relevant to users who want to retain access to that app ecosystem while changing the services behind the operating system. It is available for supported smartphones and selected Murena phones.

Privacy controls are a central part of the experience. App Lounge provides tracker and permission information for listed apps, while Advanced Privacy offers controls related to app trackers, location and IP address. Parental controls cover apps, websites and screen time. These features give users several distinct points of control, rather than focusing only on removing Google services. Installation options include an installer for supported devices and command-line instructions, so device support and comfort with installation are important considerations.

The operating system is free and open source. Murena Workspace is an optional cloud offering for services including mail, storage, calendar and contacts; account syncing also covers mail, contacts and calendars, with CalDAV/CardDAV support. Some services can be self-hosted. That separation will suit people who want to choose between cloud services and self-hosting, but users looking for a fully managed, single-provider setup may prefer another option. Choose /e/OS if reducing Google-service dependence while keeping Android app compatibility is the priority; look elsewhere if your phone is unsupported or you do not want to manage installation and service choices.
