A deep synthesizer plugin for producers who want broad sound-design options.

7.4/10Editor score

DUNE 3 is a host-based software synthesizer plugin from Synapse Audio Software for music producers and electronic musicians. Its synthesis engine combines virtual-analog, FM and wavetable methods, giving sound designers several ways to shape patches within one instrument. The factory library includes 1,000 patches, while the dual multimode filter, modulation matrix, wavetable editor and effects buses support more involved sound design. It runs on Windows and macOS in VST2, VST3, Audio Unit and AAX formats.

Its strongest fit is breadth within a single plugin. DUNE 3 includes dual arpeggiators with MIDI import, WAV import and export in the wavetable editor, a WAV file editor with loop-region control, and two master effects buses with nine effects each. Native Instruments NKS, Maschine and Komplete Kontrol integration extend its fit within those ecosystems. MIDI Polyphonic Expression support also makes it relevant for compatible expressive controllers. This combination suits producers who want both preset-led composition and detailed editing rather than a narrowly focused synthesizer.

The published offering is a paid full license with electronic delivery and a single-user license. A 30-day trial is available for the software generally, and updates are provided within a version period. DUNE 3 is not a standalone application, so a compatible host is part of the required setup. Choose it if you want VA, FM and wavetable synthesis, extensive modulation, broad plugin-format support and a large preset library. A simpler instrument may be a better fit for users who need only one synthesis method or a standalone workflow.
