Dot3D review
A broad 3D capture toolkit for LiDAR, depth cameras, GNSS, and point-cloud workflows.

Dot3D is professional 3D scanning and point-cloud processing software for field teams working across surveying, engineering, construction, public safety, shipbuilding, utilities, archaeology, and related workflows. It supports iOS, Windows, and Android, with capture from iPhone and iPad LiDAR, selected RealSense and Orbbec depth cameras, and DotProduct DPI scanning kits. The product combines real-time 3D reconstruction with point-cloud optimization, cropping, filtering, measurements, annotations, and export tools.
Its strongest fit is a mixed-device environment. The Dot3D Pro plan is designed for professional scanning with integrated LiDAR devices and is available on iOS. Dot3D Prime supports scanning with external cameras and GNSS across Windows, Android, and iOS. A free plan and a seven-day free trial make the product easier to evaluate before adopting a paid workflow. For survey-oriented work, coded targets, survey controls, RTK/GNSS integration, and GNSS-assisted geo-referencing extend the software beyond basic mobile capture.
Dot3D also fits established point-cloud production pipelines. It supports local processing and exports to DP, E57, LAS, LAZ, RCS, POD, PTS, PTX, PLY, and PTG formats, with integrations for Autodesk ReCap, Leica Cyclone, FARO Scene, Trimble RealWorks, AVEVA LFM, Z+F LaserControl, and Rhino. Choose it when device flexibility, survey controls, on-device processing, and professional point-cloud handoff matter together. It is less suitable for teams seeking a narrowly focused, simple scanning utility or an iOS-only workflow without broader capture and processing requirements.
Dot3D pros and cons

- Real-time reconstruction with local on-device processing
- RTK/GNSS, survey controls, measurements, and annotations
- Exports to DP, E57, LAS, LAZ, RCS, and other formats
- Where it doesn't
- Dot3D Pro is limited to iOS
- Dot3D Prime requires external cameras and GNSS
- Workflow breadth may exceed the needs of basic scanning projects
