digiCamControl review
A capable free Windows tool for scheduled, synchronized DSLR interval capture.

digiCamControl is free, MIT-licensed Windows software for photographers and other users who need tethered shooting or automated camera capture. It controls supported cameras over USB, provides remote settings and triggering, and combines live view with autofocus, manual focus and overlays. Its interval meter supports scheduled time-lapse sequences, while daily or date/time start and stop options suit unattended captures. The application runs as desktop software and is aimed at solo and small-team workflows.
Its strongest area is capture control. digiCamControl can operate multiple cameras with synchronized control, which fits coordinated DSLR setups better than a single-camera interval utility. Live view, RAW image viewing, histograms and metadata help users check framing and captured files during a session. Browser-based remote control through an embedded web server adds another access option, while scripting support and an astronomy bulb-mode module extend the tool for specialized capture routines. Captured stills can be assembled into a time-lapse movie through the movie-creation plugin.
The software’s free, open-source model keeps the entry point straightforward, with community support and documentation as its listed support channels. The trade-off is platform scope: it is Windows-only desktop software, and the official requirements list Windows 7, 8 and 10. Camera operation also depends on supported hardware connected over USB, so it is best suited to users whose equipment matches that workflow. Choose digiCamControl for cost-conscious Windows photographers who need scheduling, tethered control or synchronized cameras; consider another option if you need a different operating system or a workflow centered on built-in movie production rather than a plugin.
