A Mac-centered archive for structured documents, automation, OCR, and synchronized access.

DEVONthink is a document and information manager for individuals, professionals, researchers, and teams. It stores documents in local databases, indexes external files, and organizes information through tagging, annotations, metadata, versioning, and item links. The product is particularly suited to Mac users managing personal document archives who want local control over research materials, records, email, and other files. DEVONthink Server adds browser-based access to shared databases, while DEVONthink To Go extends access to iPhone and iPad.
Pricing uses one-time Mac licenses. Standard costs $99 and includes importing and indexing, synchronization, encrypted databases, versioning, annotations, and smart groups and rules. Pro costs $199 and adds DEVONthink To Go, generative AI integration, scanner integration and OCR, email archiving, and an audit report. Server costs $499 and adds a web interface and granular access management while including the Pro features and DEVONthink To Go. A free evaluation lasts at least 30 days or 150 runtime hours, whichever is longer, but there is no permanent free plan. The Mac license includes one year of updates, with optional update extensions.
Its strongest fit is for structured, long-term information management rather than lightweight note capture. Smart groups, smart rules, batch processing, scripting, revision-proof databases, and synchronization support detailed workflows. Integrations include Apple Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Apple Calendar, Apple Reminders, OmniFocus, Things, Alfred, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Bookends, Tinderbox, GrandTotal, PopClip, and iCloud. Buyers who need OCR, audit reporting, or granular access management should compare the editions carefully, because those capabilities vary by plan. DEVONthink is less suitable for users seeking a free plan or a setup that is not centered on Apple platforms.
