DeVeDe NG is an open-source desktop application for creating video DVDs and CDs suitable for home players. It is aimed at Linux users who need to combine multiple video files, create interactive menus, add subtitles, preview content, and prepare discs for burning. The program accepts formats supported by its multimedia backends and provides menu audio selection with MP2 or AC3. Its Python 3 and GTK 3 rewrite is distributed for Linux systems, with packages available for several Linux distributions and source code hosted on GitLab.
Its strongest area is the authoring workflow. Users can edit interactive DVD menus, choose subtitle colors, preview projects with VLC, MPV, or MPlayer, and apply property changes to multiple files in batches. Conversion of multiple movie files can be parallelized, which suits projects containing several videos. DeVeDe NG also connects with Mplayer, FFMpeg, AVConv, DVDAuthor, VCDImager, and MKisofs, while Brasero and K3B provide disc-burning options. These integrations give the application a broad set of Linux media tools without moving beyond its core disc-authoring purpose.
DeVeDe NG is free and open source, making it a practical choice for Linux users who want DVD and CD authoring without a paid plan. It supports both DVD standards and includes subtitle support, menu editing, previews, and burning integrations. The main boundary is platform support: it does not support Windows, while Windows ports are maintained by their porters. Choose DeVeDe NG if Linux compatibility and integrated authoring tools matter most; choose an alternative if Windows support or AI features are essential.
