DeepSNR review
A free, local denoiser for astrophotography with CLI automation and editing integrations.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
DeepSNR is StarNet Software’s local AI noise-reduction tool for astrophotography, suited to solo imagers and small workflows that process astronomical images. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and is distributed as standalone command-line packages as well as modules for PixInsight and Adobe Photoshop. Model 2 supports both RGB/color and grayscale images, while the vendor provides guidance for calibrated astronomical data and narrowband combinations. Its focus is clear: this is a specialized denoising tool, not a broad photo-editing suite.
The strongest fit is for astronomy workflows that benefit from local file processing and automation. Command-line builds accept TIFF, PNG and supported FITS files and can be integrated with other image-processing software. Linear FITS processing includes automatic stretch options, and the PixInsight module connects it to an astronomy-oriented editing environment; a Photoshop plugin is also available. Windows packages support DirectML acceleration with CPU fallback. These options give users several ways to place denoising in a workflow without relying solely on a standalone graphical tool.
The vendor states that DeepSNR is free, and the product details describe no paid tiers. Its narrow format and workflow focus is also the main boundary: camera RAW input and batch processing are not documented. Choose DeepSNR if local AI denoising for astrophotography, FITS handling, command-line automation or the listed editing integrations matter most. A photographer seeking general-purpose noise reduction across camera RAW files or a documented batch workflow should consider a broader alternative instead.
