Das Element review
A metadata-rich, on-premises library for production assets, with ingestion and automation tiers.

Das Element is an offline, on-premises application for organizing digital media libraries, particularly for visual-effects pipelines. Creative studios handling large production files can ingest assets into configurable folder structures and naming conventions, then browse them through generated proxies and previews. It supports images, video, image sequences, HDR images, 3D models and materials, scene and project files, folders, 360° media, and PDFs. The product runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, with an API option for automation. Its focus is asset organization and pipeline fit rather than a general-purpose cloud library.
Its strongest distinction is breadth for production formats paired with searchable organization. Multiple libraries can use categories, tags and key-value metadata; machine-learning-assisted tagging helps with discovery, while thumbnail, filmstrip and other proxy generation supports browsing. Previews include supported 3D model viewing. Per-asset see, edit and use permissions are available. The CLI and Python API can automate pipeline tasks and ingestion, and AWS Deadline is listed as an integration. Studios that need configurable asset intake and access controls may find this scope a closer fit than a tool centered on simple image storage.
Pricing is annual for the individual licenses: Lite is €49 per license and provides read-only viewing, search and library loading, but requires at least one Standard version. Standard is €499 per license, adding ingestion, auto tagging, library management and pipeline configuration. The CLI / API & Machine Learning license is €399 annually and includes Python 2 and 3 support. Studio Bundle includes 3 Standard licenses, 10 Lite licenses and 1 CLI license including API; it costs €2,199 per bundle annually or €849 monthly. The offline, self-hosted model and higher Standard cost may not suit teams seeking browser access or a low-cost standalone viewer. Choose Das Element for production libraries and automation; look elsewhere if cloud deployment is central.
