Current review
A deep hybrid instrument for producers who want synthesis, sampling, and downloadable sounds.

Current is a software instrument for music producers and sound designers who want synthesis and sampling in one plug-in. Its sound-design toolkit includes two wavetable oscillators with spectral processing, a granular and time-stretching sampler, an additive sub oscillator, dual morphing multi-mode filters, and FM and AM modulation routing. It also supports user sample and wavetable imports, giving users room to work with their own source material alongside the included Stream library of presets, samples, and wavetables.
The published plans show two ways to access Current. The Current plan provides a perpetual license, while All Access costs $15 per month and includes Current, released standalone effect plugins, Current expansion packs, and subscribe-to-own ownership credit. A seven-day free trial is available. This makes All Access the relevant option for users who also want the included effects and expansion content; users seeking a one-time license should consider the perpetual Current plan instead.
Current fits workflows built around compatible 64-bit digital audio workstations rather than standalone sound design. It runs on macOS 10.11 or higher and Windows 10 or higher, with VST2, VST3, AU on macOS, and AAX for Pro Tools. The plug-in format supports common DAW-based production setups, while the Stream library adds a cloud-connected source of downloadable sounds. Choose Current if hybrid synthesis, flexible sampling, and sound-library access are central to your work. Choose another option if you need a standalone app or a free plan.
