CodeGrade is an online coding education platform for instructors, teaching assistants, and institutions. It combines automatic grading across more than 175 programming languages with a browser-based editor, file support, interactive Ubuntu terminal access, customizable tests, rubrics, inline feedback, coding quizzes, plagiarism detection, coding exams, and configurable AI assistance. It is suited to programming courses that need a broad language range and centralized assignment, grading, and feedback workflows.
Pricing is structured per student per course. The Free plan costs $0 and includes the editor, drag-and-drop autograding, inline feedback and rubrics, GitHub integration, and community support. Starter costs $24 per student per course and adds unlimited students, advanced autograding, personal onboarding, and unlimited support. Advanced costs $39 per student per course and adds LMS integration, terminal access, Jupyter Notebook support, coding quizzes, and course setup assistance. The AI Assistant Add-on costs $15 per student per course and includes a Claude-powered coding assistant, configurable guardrails, a custom system prompt, and conversation review. Institutional licensing includes everything in Advanced, a dedicated account manager, optional AI, and flexible licensing.
Platform fit is a central strength. CodeGrade supports Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace, Sakai, and Open edX, with LMS grade and enrollment synchronization through LTI. GitHub and GitLab submissions, Jupyter Notebooks, and a REST API covering assignments, submissions, grades, rubrics, users, and courses extend its fit for varied teaching workflows. Instructors can also review AI assistant conversations. Choose CodeGrade when language coverage, grading controls, and course-system connections matter. Teams seeking advanced LMS, terminal, or notebook capabilities should budget for Advanced, while courses needing only basic editing and autograding may find the Free plan sufficient.
