ClauseShift gives founders, small businesses, freelancers, landlords, tenants, HR teams, agencies, and legal teams a first-pass way to review contracts. It produces plain-English risk findings tied to quoted clauses, an overall risk score, and extracted renewal, notice, and expiry dates. Users can ask questions answered from the contract, then re-review a revised draft and compare it with an earlier report. Its clause-level explanations make it more useful for triage than a summary alone, but it is informational rather than a substitute for legal advice.

Pricing suits intermittent use as well as ongoing review. The Free plan includes three full reviews a month, a two-model cross-check on the first review, and three contract questions per day. Lite costs $9 per month and adds two-model cross-checks, clause-cited findings, and contract Q&A. Pro costs $29 per month and includes unlimited two-model reviews, audio intake, version comparison, deadline tracking with email alerts, and unbranded report exports. Pay as you go costs $1.50 per review with no subscription; bulk packs of 5, 25, or 50 lower the per-review price. The vendor says Lite and Pro are also offered annually, though its published listings give monthly prices; app-store versions may cost more.

ClauseShift accepts PDF and DOCX uploads, pasted text, audio for transcription, and contracts sent by email. Read-only report links support sharing findings, while Pro's version comparison and deadline alerts suit users managing follow-up beyond a single review. Web, Windows, and Android platforms are listed, and support is by email. Occasional reviewers can start with Free or pay per review; teams with regular volume may prefer Pro for unlimited reviews and tracking. It is a less suitable choice for anyone who needs legal advice rather than an informational first pass.

ClauseShift pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Risk findings quote the clauses behind them and include an overall risk score
    • Tracks renewal, notice, and expiry dates and supports deadline alerts on Pro
    • Reviews PDF and DOCX files, pasted text, audio, or emailed contracts
  • Where it doesn't
    • Free plan limits users to three full reviews per month
    • Unlimited two-model reviews and deadline alerts require the $29 Pro plan
    • Provides informational findings, not a substitute for legal advice
