cdBurner review
A free browser-controlled Windows burner with broad formats and detailed disc verification.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
cdBurner combines a browser control panel with a Windows burn agent for creating physical CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs. It suits solo users and small teams that need audio CDs, data discs or disc-image copies without paying for a license. Audio projects can use MP3, FLAC, WAV, M4A or OGG tracks, while file and folder burns support UDF, Joliet and ISO 9660 file systems. The workflow also includes copy-count, write-speed, finalization and multisession controls.
The Free plan costs $0 and includes no trial, no watermark and no paid tier. Its platform fit is focused: the browser provides the control panel, while burning occurs locally through Windows IMAPI2 rather than uploading selected files. Windows 10 and 11 are supported. For disc preparation, cdBurner covers ISO and IMG writing, rewritable-media erasing for CD-RW, DVD-RW and BD-RE, and a print-label/insert function. Per-file SHA-256 read-back verification adds a way to check each burn after writing.
The main trade-off is the required Windows burn agent, which adds an installation step to an otherwise browser-based process. macOS and Linux users cannot use the current release, and the browser remains part of the operating workflow. Choose cdBurner if you want a free Windows-based tool with broad audio-format support, image writing, multisession options and verification. Choose an alternative if you need a fully native macOS or Linux application, or prefer disc burning without a browser control panel.
