Castamatic review
A focused Apple podcast player with local AI features and private-feed support.

Castamatic is a podcast player for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and CarPlay. It is designed for listeners who want more control than a basic RSS player, including support for private feeds, sideloaded audio, live shows, and Podcasting 2.0 features such as Value4Value. Its free plan includes the core podcast player and is available free forever, while the One Year Premium Subscription removes ads and unlocks unlimited sideloads.
Its standout feature is local episode processing. After an episode is downloaded, Castamatic can generate transcripts and chapters on-device using Apple Intelligence. The app also includes automatic audio leveling, adaptive silence skipping, variable playback speed, smart playlists, and an On-the-Go queue. These features make it a strong fit for listeners who want episode navigation and playback controls without sending transcript or chapter processing away from the device.
Castamatic fits most naturally into an Apple-centered listening setup. Private iCloud synchronization can keep subscriptions, listening positions, playlists, and settings aligned, while CarPlay, Apple Watch, Siri Shortcuts, and AirPlay 2 extend playback across Apple devices and accessories. Offline downloads and private-feed support add flexibility for travel and member-only shows. Choose Castamatic if you use Apple hardware and value on-device AI, queue controls, and broad feed support. Listeners who need Android or non-Apple desktop access should choose a podcast app with wider platform coverage instead.
