A focused Word equation toolkit for editing, conversion, and exam preparation.

BlueMath is a Microsoft Word add-in for math teachers and STEM authors who need to create, convert, and manage equations inside documents. Its visual editor accepts LaTeX input, provides a live preview and symbol or template palette, and inserts results as native Word Math or vector images. The document tools also convert LaTeX fragments into Word equations and convert Word equations back to LaTeX text. Chemistry authors can use the chemistry tab with mhchem support, while exam creators get formatting and shuffling tools.
The published plans show a Free option priced at $0 one time and a Pro option at $10 per year with annual billing. Free includes the visual editor, LaTeX support, Word Math or vector-image insertion, document LaTeX conversion, exam formatting, and exam shuffling for up to two codes. Pro adds bulk MathType conversion, batch restyling of equation fonts, sizes, and colors, unlimited exam shuffle codes, and Word-to-LaTeX exam export. The homepage also states that Pro includes a 30-day free trial. This structure suits users who can start with core editing and upgrade when they need document-wide processing or larger exam workflows.
BlueMath’s strongest distinction is its combination of equation conversion and assessment tooling. It can bulk-convert legacy MathType and Equation Editor 3.0 objects, export multiple-choice exams to the LaTeX ex_test package, and produce answer keys and grading QR codes. Those features make it relevant to educators and authors maintaining established Word files. The trade-off is a Word-centered workflow: users need Word 2016 or later on Windows or Mac, or Word on the web, and Microsoft Word is the listed integration. Teams seeking broader authoring ecosystems or support beyond email and documentation should consider alternatives; BlueMath fits solo and small users focused on Word-based mathematics.
