Asakiri review
A free open-source desktop studio for building offline language courses.

Asakiri is a free, open-source desktop course studio for teachers and learners who want to create structured language materials locally. Its Studio editor organizes lessons into units and supports reusable vocabulary, phrase, and note libraries. Authors can add rich text, images, and audio, then build multiple-choice, listening, matching, and word-order exercises with self-grading. The product is available on macOS, Windows, and Linux, making it a fit for creators who prefer desktop tools and local project files over a cloud-based course service.
Its strongest case is offline authoring and portable course ownership. Projects are stored in local folders and can be edited without an account or cloud service, while the plain-JSON course format supports portability. A live learner preview helps authors review material while editing. Unsplash and Tatoeba integrations add external content options, and the open-source Studio is released under MPL-2.0. These features give course creators a focused workspace for assembling their own lessons rather than a catalog of ready-made language content.
Asakiri is narrower than a learner-first language app. The current product is primarily the Studio desktop editor, while the associated learner application is in development. It does not provide mobile apps, speech practice, or personalization, and it does not offer the ready-made breadth of a general language-learning platform. Choose Asakiri if you are creating offline courses and value reusable content, multimedia exercises, and editable local files. Choose an alternative if your priority is studying on mobile, practicing pronunciation, receiving adaptive recommendations, or accessing a broad existing course library.
