ARES Commander review
A cross-platform CAD choice for native DWG and BIM-to-CAD workflows.

ARES Commander is desktop CAD software for creating and modifying DWG drawings in 2D and 3D. It is aimed at architecture, engineering, construction, design and other technical-drawing teams that need native DWG workflows across Windows, macOS and Linux. Its feature set includes Dynamic Blocks, PDF and STEP import and export, and BIM-to-CAD drawing generation from Revit and IFC files. Local and offline operation is supported, while the ARES Trinity ecosystem adds browser-based and mobile CAD access.
Pricing is presented in euros across several license models. ARES Commander Standalone costs €595 as a one-time purchase and includes desktop CAD, PDF import and export, and offline commenting. ARES Commander with Trinity is listed at €225 and adds ARES Kudo online CAD, ARES Touch mobile CAD, cloud file synchronization, comments, markups and version history. Flex/Cloud Network and Flex/Network are each listed at €745 per cloud seat or network seat, respectively, with floating licenses and included ARES Kudo and ARES Touch access. A 30-day free trial is available. The ecosystem connects with Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, OneDrive, Microsoft SharePoint and Autodesk Forma Data Management.
ARES Commander stands out when cross-platform DWG editing needs to connect with BIM references, cloud files and distributed collaboration. AI-assisted CAD commands and block generation add another layer to the drafting workflow, while revision history and markups support shared review. Its scope is narrower than a full architectural BIM authoring system: the verified core is CAD, with BIM-to-CAD generation rather than comprehensive architectural BIM creation. Choose it for DWG-centered production and coordination across desktop, browser and mobile environments; choose another category fit if full architectural BIM authoring is the primary requirement.

- Windows, macOS and Linux support with optional collaboration
- Where it doesn't
- It is CAD software rather than full architectural BIM authoring
- Cloud collaboration requires a license that includes the cloud solution
- Pricing varies across standalone, subscription and network license models
