Apera turns Italian text into vocabulary practice for learners who already know some of the language and want to read or watch more. Users can photograph pages or paste subtitles and lyrics; the service selects unfamiliar words for flashcards, pronunciation audio and explanations. A vocabulary estimate and text analyzer add context, while AI-generated stories offer another way to practice. Apera is a focused vocabulary tool rather than a complete grammar or speaking course, so learners seeking structured speaking lessons should look elsewhere.

The free plan sets weekly and daily allowances: 10 pages from photos or pasted text a week, one new AI-generated story a day, 50 new word recordings a week and 25 word explanations a week. Card reviews are unlimited. A Plus plan lists higher allowances and sentence-by-sentence story read-aloud, but it is not on sale and is available by access code. That makes the free plan the practical starting point; learners who need more capacity cannot simply purchase the published Plus offering.

Apera runs on the web, with cloud deployment and a browser extension, and offers email support. It also provides vocabulary-based culture lists for films, books and songs, which connect study to the kinds of content learners want to explore. Uploaded images and text are processed for vocabulary rather than displayed as an in-app reader, so it supports study alongside content instead of replacing a reading or viewing app. Choose Apera if extracting and reviewing words from Italian material is your priority; choose a broader course if you need speaking practice or comprehensive grammar instruction.
