AnyPyTools review
A focused, open-source automation layer for AnyBody batch studies and sampling.

AnyPyTools is an open-source Python toolkit for automating workflows in the AnyBody Modeling System (AMS), a musculoskeletal modeling and simulation system. It is aimed at researchers and engineers who need repeatable batch runs, parameter exploration, sampling, and result collection around AMS models. The package is a workflow companion rather than a standalone physics simulator, so its value depends on an existing AnyBody-based modeling process.
Its strongest capability is orchestration. AnyPyTools can launch AMS simulations from Python, schedule multiple simulation instances across CPU cores, and batch-process model runs. For study design, it supports parameter studies, Monte Carlo sampling, and Latin hypercube sampling, then collects simulation results for downstream analysis. A PyTest plugin adds a way to test AnyBody models within Python-oriented workflows. The package is installed through Python package managers and runs as desktop software on Windows or Linux, fitting teams that already standardize on Python for automation.
The project is MIT-licensed and available without charge, with community and documentation support. That keeps the entry cost low for solo, small, and mid-market research groups, but the toolkit remains tightly coupled to AMS and does not replace the modeling system itself. Teams seeking a broad, standalone physics simulator, a classroom-focused lesson environment, or support beyond community resources should look elsewhere. Choose AnyPyTools when AnyBody is already central to your work and you need scalable study automation; skip it when you need independent modeling, broader platform coverage, or a packaged educational product.
AnyPyTools pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Runs parallel AnyBody simulations across multiple CPU cores
- Supports parameter, Monte Carlo, and Latin hypercube studies
- Collects results and includes a PyTest plugin for model testing
- Where it doesn't
- Requires the AnyBody Modeling System as its simulation engine
- Desktop deployment is limited to Windows and Linux
- Support is provided through community channels and documentation
