AIDA-X review
A flexible free amp model player with standalone, plugin, IR, and custom-training support.

AIDA-X is a free, open-source neural amp model player for guitar and bass from Aida DSP. It loads AI-trained models of amplifiers and other music equipment, then combines amp, cabinet, distortion, drive, fuzz, boost, and EQ stages in a signal chain. The software is available as a standalone application and as plugins, with Windows, macOS, and Linux support. A browser version is also available for trying the software online.
Its strongest fit is flexibility across playing and production setups. AIDA-X supports CLAP, LV2, VST2, and VST3, while the standalone application accepts audio input and includes configurable buffer size controls. The cabinet simulator loads WAV and FLAC impulse-response files, and input and output peak meters help track signal levels. Pre- and post-EQ controls add parametric, band-pass, and high-shelf options around the processing chain.
AIDA-X also includes a training workflow for creating custom models, extending its role beyond playback of supplied neural captures. That makes it a strong choice for guitarists, bassists, sound designers, and producers who want open-source software with multiple plugin paths and model-building capability. It is less suited to buyers seeking a broad instrument platform or a narrowly simplified amp-only tool. The clearest appeal is control over models, signal-chain stages, impulse responses, and host integration without a paid plan.
AIDA-X pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Free and open-source with standalone operation
- Supports CLAP, LV2, VST2, and VST3 plugins
- Loads neural models and WAV or FLAC impulse responses
- Where it doesn't
- Focused on guitar and bass rather than broad instrument coverage
- Impulse-response loading is limited to WAV and FLAC files
- Custom model creation requires a separate training workflow
