Afterlogic WebMail Lite PHP is a self-hosted, browser-based email client for existing IMAP servers. It is intended for personal, commercial, hosting, and telecom deployments, including installations managed through Plesk or cPanel. The open-source edition is free for personal or commercial use under the AGPL, and it provides access to mail folders, search, threading, filters, signatures, and attachment handling through the web. This makes it a practical fit for operators who want to provide webmail without replacing their existing mail infrastructure.

Its strongest angle is extensibility and server compatibility. The product supports mail filters, auto-responders, auto-forwarding, and Sieve, along with OpenPGP encryption, signing, decryption, and verification in the browser. Plugin support and integration APIs give administrators room to adapt the interface or connect it with other systems. Compatibility includes IMAP servers and platforms such as Exim, Postfix, Courier, Dovecot, Sendmail, Qmail, Microsoft Exchange, MailEnable, IceWarp, MDaemon, hMailServer, Plesk, cPanel, and Google. External authentication through Google, Facebook, and Dropbox is also available.

The trade-off is a narrow focus on webmail rather than a broader personal productivity suite. The published category coverage is web-only, with no unified inbox or calendar tools. The Lite edition is therefore better suited to self-hosters who already operate IMAP infrastructure and want browser access with filtering, search, encryption, and extension points. Users seeking calendar functionality, unified handling of multiple IMAP accounts, or a wider app experience should consider a product built around those capabilities instead.
