Adobe InDesign is a professional page-layout and desktop-publishing application for creating brochures, digital magazines, books, eBooks, posters, presentations, advertisements, and other print or digital materials. It is suited to designers, prepress and production professionals, print-service providers, publishers, agencies, and corporate design teams that need control over typography, page structure, and publishing output. The application supports multipage documents, page and spread management, OpenType and Variable fonts, templates, asset libraries, PDF import and export, and web versions through Publish Online.

Its strongest fit is production-oriented layout work. Preflight checks help identify print-production issues, while Data Merge can generate design variations from structured content. Share for Review provides feedback links, and cloud documents with autosave support document continuity. Integrations with Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InCopy, Creative Cloud Libraries, and Adobe Express make it a natural choice for teams already working within Adobe’s ecosystem. These capabilities favor repeatable publishing workflows over quick, general-purpose visual design.

The published plans include an individual InDesign plan with Adobe Express Premium, 100GB of cloud storage, and 25 monthly generative credits. Creative Cloud Pro adds more than 20 creative applications, Creative AI features, 4,000 monthly generative credits, Adobe Express Premium, and Frame.io for Creative Cloud. InDesign for teams includes 1TB of cloud storage and exclusive business features. There is also a 7-day free trial. Choose InDesign for professional page-layout production and print or digital publishing; choose another tool if you need broader graphic-design coverage, a free plan, or support beyond Windows and macOS.

Adobe InDesign pros and cons

    • Strong multipage layout and page/spread management
    • Print preflight, PDF workflows, and Data Merge
    • Deep Adobe Creative Cloud integration
  • Where it doesn't
    • No free plan and a paid-only model
    • Available on Windows and macOS only
    • Narrower focus than an all-purpose graphic design tool
