Accessibility.build Desktop review
A focused Mac app for checking on-screen contrast and documenting accessibility issues.

Accessibility.build Desktop is a free menu-bar app for designers, developers, and accessibility auditors who need to check colors directly on a Mac screen. Its contrast picker samples foreground and background pixels through a magnified loupe, then reports WCAG AA/AAA and APCA results. It also includes a colorblind lens, touch-target measurement, and tools to capture and annotate accessibility issues. The published platform requirements are macOS 12 or later on Apple Silicon, so it is not an option for teams working on other operating systems.
The central workflow is suited to visual review of designs and interfaces already on screen. Gradient sampling looks for the worst-case pixel rather than relying on a single point, and the app suggests passing color fixes. Captures can include WCAG criteria and severity, with redaction available; issue lists can be exported for GitHub or Jira. According to the vendor, processing is local to the Mac. These features make the app relevant to individual reviewers as well as teams that want to pass documented findings into an existing issue workflow, though batch color-pair checking is not supported.
The free plan includes the contrast picker, issue capture and annotation, and colorblind lens. Full-page WCAG scans and PDF audit reports are described as planned paid-tier features, not part of the current free tool. Choose Accessibility.build Desktop for on-screen contrast checks and issue documentation on a supported Mac; consider another checker if your work depends on full-page scans today, batch comparisons, or a non-macOS platform.
