abeMeda is a Windows desktop cataloging tool for photographers, media libraries, personal users, small businesses, and teams organizing files across local and removable storage. It catalogs hard disks, folders, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray media, servers, iPods, and USB drives, with support for image, video, audio, document, archive, and text files. Previews and thumbnails support browsing, while searchable EXIF, IPTC, XMP, audio, video, document, and text metadata give the catalog detailed indexing. Its focus is offline media organization rather than a cloud-based asset repository.

The published plans use one-time licensing. The Windows Personal License costs $39 for one user and includes full features, but does not allow file-server catalog sharing. Business options cost $149 for the Windows 2 User Pack, $219 for 3 users, $359 for 5 users, $599 for 10 users, and $999 for 20 users. These business licenses add network catalog sharing and automatic database-folder updates. Windows 50 User Pack and Windows Site License options are also available. The download provides a fully operational trial limited to 10 catalogs, while the listed paid plans are one-time licenses.

abeMeda stands out when catalog depth matters more than team workflow. It can edit XMP/IPTC tags, apply metadata presets, manage hierarchical keywords, people, annotations, ratings, custom fields, and GPS data, then export catalog information to XML, CSV, TXT, HTML, contact sheets, and reports. Duplicate finding, checksums, offline browsing, command-line options, and URL commands extend its utility for local archives. Integrations include Google Earth, Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, Flickr, MusicBrainz, freedb, ffmpeg, ExifTool, and 7-Zip. Choose it for Windows-based local cataloging and metadata control; choose an alternative if collaborative workflows, versioning, APIs, or broader platform support are central requirements.

  • Where it doesn't
