4chan is an anonymous imageboard and discussion platform organized around topic-specific boards. Users can browse and post without registering an account, create threads with image uploads, reply with text or images, quote and cross-link posts, report content, and delete their own posts through a password cookie. Boards cover areas such as anime, manga, video games, music, photography, technology, news, and adult content, making the service a fit for public, topic-centered communities that value anonymous participation.
The pricing model keeps core browsing and participation free. Free access includes posting and browsing topic-specific boards without account registration. The 4chan Pass — 1 year costs 30 USD per user per year, billed annually, while the 4chan Pass — 3 years costs 60 USD per user per 3 years. Both paid plans bypass CAPTCHA when posting and reporting, reduce post cooldown timers, and bypass ISP, IP range, and country blocks. The Pass is a support subscription for posting conveniences, and Pass sales are final with no refunds.
Moderation and publishing controls are a notable part of the platform. Moderators can delete posts, issue bans, sticky threads, and close threads, while users can report content and access RSS and Atom feeds. The read-only JSON API supports programmatic access, and the service is available through the web and API. Its scope is intentionally public and board-based: it does not provide private groups, direct messaging, or native mobile apps. Choose 4chan for anonymous image-led discussion and public topic boards; choose another community platform if private spaces, one-to-one communication, or broader member-management tools are priorities.
