3D Splat App review
A free Mac editor with local Metal training, masks and broad splat exports.

3D Splat App is a macOS application for creating Gaussian-splat scenes from photographs, video, COLMAP datasets or Nerfstudio-format projects. It is aimed at solo creators and small teams who want reconstruction, editing and export on an Apple Silicon Mac rather than through cloud processing. The workflow covers importing source material, training a scene, inspecting it in a real-time viewport, refining masks and exporting the finished splat in several formats.
Its strongest differentiator is the local editing and training workflow. Metal acceleration supports Fast, Medium and HD presets, while real-time training metrics and viewport rendering provide feedback during reconstruction. Machine-learning person segmentation can create masks, and frame-by-frame brushes let users paint or erase those masks for finer control. Scene editing tools, 360-video import and support for both ordinary photos and established COLMAP or Nerfstudio projects make it useful across several capture workflows.
The Free plan has no subscriptions and performs processing locally. That keeps the product focused on desktop Mac work, with no mobile capture option and no cross-platform deployment described. Export support includes PLY, compressed PLY, SPZ and SOG, which suits workflows that need portable splat files. Video rendering and cinematic camera paths are marked as coming soon, so users who need those outputs immediately should consider another tool. Choose 3D Splat App for a free, self-contained Mac editor with segmentation and mask controls; look elsewhere if you need Windows, mobile capture or finished video rendering today.
