Yes. A PrestaShop module’s uninstall routine can delete another module’s setting if both use the same configuration key and the first module removes that key. Configuration values live in shared storage, and the documented deletion methods can remove a key across all shops. Distinctive key prefixes and careful uninstall cleanup help prevent accidental data loss.
What “global” means in PrestaShop Configuration
PrestaShop stores configuration settings in a shared SQL table, conventionally named with the shop’s database prefix, such as ps_configuration. Modules do not each get an isolated configuration table. A setting is identified by its key, so two modules that choose the same key can collide.
Shared storage does not mean PrestaShop lacks multishop support. A key’s value can be overridden for a shop or shop group. The current Configuration documentation says methods generally act in the current store context unless a ShopConstraint specifies scope; ShopConstraint::allShops() explicitly targets every shop. See PrestaShop’s Configuration storage documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow an uninstall can affect another module
Suppose two modules both use a generic key such as API_KEY. If one module’s uninstall method calls a deletion method for that key, it cannot know from the key alone which module originally wrote the value. The other module may lose its setting as a result.

The legacy Configuration::deleteByName($key) method is documented to delete the matching key’s value for all shops. The current Configuration service’s remove($key) operation is also documented to remove the value for all shops. That scope matters even when a key is unique: uninstalling a module may remove values beyond the current shop. Check the method’s behavior and the intended scope for the PrestaShop version your module supports.
Why the tutorial example is not a universal safety guarantee
The PrestaShop 9 first-module tutorial stores a module-specific key, MYMODULE_NAME, during installation and deletes it with Configuration::deleteByName('MYMODULE_NAME') during uninstall. It also explains that Configuration data is stored in the PREFIX_configuration table. This demonstrates cleanup of a key the example module owns; it does not establish that deleting any key is safe or that every module follows the same naming practice. The tutorial notes that Shop::setContext(Shop::CONTEXT_ALL) applies subsequent changes to all existing stores. See the PrestaShop 9 first-module tutorial.

How module authors can reduce the risk
Use a distinctive prefix
Name every module-owned configuration key with a module-specific prefix or namespace, for example ACMEINVOICE_ENABLED rather than ENABLED. PrestaShop’s module good-practices guidance explicitly recommends prefixing configuration parameters. The cited page is for PrestaShop 8 and identifies itself as outdated, so check the current guidance for the project version you maintain. See PrestaShop’s module good practices.

Delete only keys the module owns
Review the uninstall method and its deletion list. Remove only keys that the module itself created, and treat generic or historically shared names as potential collisions. Before using an operation that removes a value for all shops, confirm that the key is unique and that deleting every shop’s value is intended.

Make multishop scope explicit
For newer code, use the Configuration storage service guidance and pass a ShopConstraint when the desired shop scope should be explicit. Do not assume that changing context automatically makes a deletion local: the documented service remove($key) operation removes the value across all shops. The legacy API has optional shop-context parameters in its compatibility documentation, but its documented deleteByName($key) behavior is all-shops deletion.
What to check before uninstalling a module
The actual impact depends on the module’s implementation; a shared table alone does not mean every uninstall will delete another module’s settings. If the module’s behavior is uncertain, review its source code before uninstalling it, focusing on its uninstall method and the configuration keys it deletes. Without inspecting that code, there is no basis to say whether a particular module is safe or which settings it might remove.

- Find the uninstall method and list each configuration key it removes.
- Check whether those keys are uniquely prefixed or could be used by other code.
- Confirm whether deletion applies to the current shop, a shop group, or all shops.
- For a key collision or unclear ownership, avoid assuming the uninstall is harmless; preserve the relevant configuration data before proceeding.
