Reimaging a server wipes its existing operating system and may erase data on its disks. Back up anything you need before reprovisioning. Ubuntu 24.04 is above the Ubuntu 20.04 minimum listed in Chatwoot’s self-hosted installation guide, but the available documentation does not verify a current, Ubuntu 24.04-specific command sequence or image tag. Use the current Chatwoot instructions for exact commands rather than treating an older guide or a floating image tag as a tested recipe.
Check the server resources before reprovisioning
Chatwoot’s self-hosted installation guide lists these resource figures; the source does not state a publication year, and they are general guidance rather than a capacity guarantee for a particular workload:

See Chatwoot’s self-hosted installation guide for its platform and resource guidance. Check the current maintained instructions before choosing an image tag or following installation commands.
How do I install Chatwoot on a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 server?
Chatwoot’s self-hosting guidance names Ubuntu 20.04 or later, or a compatible Linux distribution. That makes Ubuntu 24.04 fall within its stated version floor; it does not establish that a release-specific installation recipe has been tested on 24.04.

The documented Docker Compose route consists of these broad stages, not a verified cut-and-paste procedure for Ubuntu 24.04:
- Provision Ubuntu 24.04. Reimage or provision the server, then confirm you can administer it and that needed files from the previous system are safely backed up.
- Install Docker and Compose. Follow current Chatwoot and Docker documentation for the supported installation method and prerequisites.
- Configure the deployment. Obtain the environment and production Compose files and set the required application, database, and cache configuration for your deployment.
- Prepare the database. Follow the current Chatwoot procedure for initializing or preparing the database before starting the application.
- Start the services. Bring up the configured Compose services using the current documented commands, then verify the deployment and its public access configuration.
The detailed Docker instructions available at this GitHub documentation copy describe the general deployment approach. Because it is a repository copy rather than a release-pinned Ubuntu 24.04 guide, verify file paths, commands, and the image tag against Chatwoot’s maintained documentation before running them.

Do not expose the Chatwoot application container directly to the public internet as the permanent access method. The Docker deployment guide says the containers bind to localhost and recommends putting Nginx or another reverse proxy in front for external access. It also describes configuring a domain and TLS with Let’s Encrypt. Confirm the current proxy and certificate steps in the deployment instructions before opening public access.

Decide whether you want to operate the server
With self-hosting, you operate the server and take responsibility for updates. Chatwoot Cloud is managed by Chatwoot and receives automatic updates, according to its account guide, last updated July 22, 2026. Self-hosting can offer infrastructure control and customization, but it does not by itself ensure security or regulatory compliance.
Chatwoot’s self-hosted FAQ says the team does not currently provide one-time installation services. It describes developer support for self-hosting and premium support under a commercial contract or paid plan; check the FAQ for current terms.
Plan upgrades as application and database changes
Updating a self-hosted deployment is more than replacing application images: Chatwoot’s Docker guide instructs operators to run its database preparation task when updating images. Follow the upgrade procedure for the version you are moving to, and make backups before changing application images or database schema.
