To improve airflow in a prebuilt gaming PC, first give its vents room, then clean dust safely and check that fans work and are not obstructed. Compare temperatures under the same game and settings before and after each change. A prebuilt’s layout, service rules, and compatible parts vary by model, so use its own manual before opening the case or adding hardware.
Start with placement and vent clearance
Put the desktop on a hard, flat surface, away from enclosed furniture. Remove objects covering its intake or exhaust openings and leave open space around the case. ASUS advises clearance around front, rear, top, and side vents; Lenovo says not to store or operate a desktop inside furniture. Follow the directions for your specific case if its vent locations differ.
Inspect and clean dust safely
Dust on vents, fans, heatsinks, or the graphics card can restrict airflow. Turn the PC off before cleaning. Dell recommends disconnecting power, inspecting the vents, and using canned compressed air to remove dust or debris. ASUS also advises checking the case, graphics card, fans, heatsinks, and exhaust vents for dust.

Do not assume every prebuilt should be opened or cleaned the same way. Check the exact model’s service manual first; it governs access and any service restrictions. Lenovo’s guidance for its M70a/M90a models recommends inspecting for dust at least every three months, more often in dusty or high-traffic environments. That is a model-specific example, not a universal schedule.

Check fan operation, direction, and obstructions
Look for visible fans that fail to spin when expected, are blocked by debris, or have cables in their path. Fan behavior varies: some graphics-card fans stop under light load, so inactivity alone does not prove a fault. Consult the PC or graphics-card documentation for expected behavior. Move loose cables only if it is safe and permitted by the manufacturer.
A common case-airflow arrangement draws cool air in through the front, bottom, or sides and exhausts warm air at the rear or top. ASUS describes this as the basic airflow principle, but a prebuilt may use different ducting or a nonstandard layout. Check the actual fan orientation and follow the model’s design rather than rearranging fans to match a general diagram.

Tell airflow trouble from normal gaming heat
Demanding games and multiple open applications can raise component temperatures and fan speed. ASUS describes this as normal under resource-intensive workloads, and HP notes that graphically intense games and running several applications can increase heat. Before changing hardware, check Task Manager for unexpectedly high CPU, GPU, or memory use and close unnecessary background workloads.

ASUS suggests briefly testing with the side panel open: if the graphics card’s temperature falls noticeably, case airflow or ambient conditions may be contributing. This is a diagnostic check, not a permanent operating setup; if opening the panel makes little difference, investigate other causes.

There is no universal CPU or GPU temperature threshold established for every prebuilt. Interpret readings against the limits and guidance for your exact components and system, rather than treating one number as safe for all PCs.
Consider extra fans only after checking compatibility
Additional case fans may help if the chassis supports them and basic clearance and cleaning have not resolved the problem. Before buying or installing anything, check the manufacturer’s service documentation for:

- Clearance around other components

Without the exact prebuilt model, a specific fan size or upgrade recommendation is not reliable. Intel and ASUS both point toward model-specific guidance rather than a universal fan prescription.

Seek the manufacturer’s diagnostics or support if basic maintenance does not help, a fan appears damaged, or the PC continues to overheat. Intel lists automatic shutdowns, CPU frequency below expectations, throttling, slowness, and excessive system-fan noise among possible overheating symptoms. Dell also notes that dust-blocked airflow can contribute to reduced performance. Because prebuilt systems have model-specific cooling and service procedures, Intel recommends contacting the computer maker about overheating in an OEM system.
