ASUS’s most powerful gaming-laptop families include the 2026 ROG Strix SCAR 18 and ROG Zephyrus Duo, both listed with an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU. The SCAR 18 is the more conventional large-screen gaming design; the Duo pairs high-end graphics with a 16-inch OLED touchscreen and a second display. Three 2025 configurations round out this shortlist, but they are prior-generation options whose exact regional SKU and availability need checking.
This is a specification-led list, not a measured performance ranking. ASUS’s published specifications identify hardware and features, but do not establish which laptop delivers the highest frame rates in real games.
How to interpret “most powerful”
A laptop’s GPU name alone does not determine gaming performance. Maximum GPU power, cooling, display resolution, and the exact configuration all matter. ASUS lists an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU in several of the models below, but the available specifications do not provide independent, comparable game benchmarks for them.

Use the model year and code—not just the family name—when checking a retailer listing. ASUS cautions that “Actual configuration may vary by region and SKU.” The 2026 Zephyrus Duo specifications cited here are from an East Africa regional listing; configurations in other markets may differ.

Five powerful ASUS gaming-laptop configurations
1. ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2026), G835
The SCAR 18 is the clearest choice in this list for someone seeking a large, high-refresh gaming display alongside top-tier graphics. ASUS describes configurations with an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU rated at a maximum 175W TGP. Its 18-inch 4K Mini LED panel is specified at 240Hz, with more than 2,000 dimming zones and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. ASUS says memory and storage are user-upgradeable, with support for up to 128GB RAM and 8TB storage on the product page; regional SKU specifications can differ.
There is an important display setting to know: the panel defaults to 120Hz in Standard, Eco, and Optimized GPU modes. To enable 240Hz, ASUS says to select Ultimate GPU mode. That trade-off may matter if you want the maximum refresh rate without using that GPU mode.

2. ROG Zephyrus Duo (2026), GX651
The Duo combines a high-end GPU with a more compact 16-inch, dual-screen format. ASUS’s East Africa specification page lists an Intel Core Ultra 9 386H, an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU with 24GB GDDR7, and a 16-inch 3K OLED touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The listed memory is 64GB onboard LPDDR5X with no expansion; the page also specifies a 2TB PCIe 5.0 SSD.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAt 2.82 kg (6.22 lb), according to that regional specification page, it is a substantial dual-screen performance laptop rather than an ultralight gaming machine. 3. ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2025), G835LX-SA047W
ASUS’s 2025 ROG product guide excerpt identifies this SCAR 18 configuration among the prior-generation high-end options and lists an RTX 5090/24GB GDDR7 configuration. Treat that as a model-specific listing, not a guarantee that every 2025 SCAR 18 has the same graphics hardware. Confirm the full code and GPU on the actual regional listing, as well as current stock.
4. ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025), G635LX-RW036W
The same 2025 guide excerpt identifies the SCAR 16 configuration with RTX 5090/24GB GDDR7. It offers a smaller chassis class than the SCAR 18 family, but the cited guide excerpt does not establish a complete display, weight, upgradeability, or performance comparison. Check the precise regional configuration rather than inferring those details from the family name.

5. ROG Zephyrus G16 (2025), GU605CX-QR111W
ASUS’s 2025 guide excerpt also identifies this Zephyrus G16 configuration with RTX 5090/24GB GDDR7. As with the prior-year SCAR entries, it is an availability-dependent option, not a claim that all G16 models carry that GPU. Verify the exact SKU and full specifications before comparing it with either 2026 system.

What to verify before buying
- Exact SKU: Match the complete model code on the product page and retailer listing. Similar family names can cover different hardware configurations.
- GPU power: Check the laptop GPU’s stated maximum TGP where the specification provides it; the RTX label alone is not a complete performance comparison.
- Display behavior: Check resolution, refresh rate, panel type, and whether a special GPU mode is required to reach the maximum refresh rate.
- Upgrade limits: Confirm whether memory is onboard or user-upgradeable and whether the stated capacity applies to your exact SKU.
- Local price and stock: Neither a cross-market price nor current availability is established here, so check the live listing in your region.
