A 10,000mAh power bank usually delivers about 1.5 to 2 full smartphone charges. That is a practical estimate, not a guaranteed count. The result depends on your phone’s battery size, voltage-conversion losses, cable and charging mode, temperature, and whether you use the phone while it charges.

The 10,000mAh label describes charge stored in the bank’s internal cells, not the amount that arrives directly in a phone battery. To estimate accurately, convert the bank and phone capacities to watt-hours (Wh), then allow for energy lost in conversion.

What a 10,000mAh power bank can realistically do

Anker’s 2026 UK buyer guide estimates roughly 1.5–2 charges for a typical smartphone. An Anker Support worked example uses a 3,200mAh phone and assumes 82% efficiency in both the power bank and the phone. The combined efficiency is about 67%, producing an estimate of approximately 2.1 charges. That calculation is a manufacturer example, not an independent laboratory result or a universal efficiency rating.

A phone may receive less than that estimate when it is being used during charging, when the cable or connector is inefficient, when the bank is cold or hot, or when a charging mode changes the voltage and current. Conversely, a phone with a smaller battery and favorable conditions can receive more complete charge cycles from the same bank.

Why the 10,000mAh label does not equal 10,000mAh in your phone

The rating refers to the total charge capacity of the bank’s internal battery cells. Those cells typically operate at about 3.7 volts. USB output is normally delivered at a different voltage, and the phone’s charging circuitry converts the incoming power again for its battery. Every conversion loses some energy as heat and electronic overhead.

Watt-hours provide a common basis for comparing energy at different voltages:

Wh = (mAh ÷ 1,000) × voltage

For a 10,000mAh bank rated around 3.7V:

(10,000 ÷ 1,000) × 3.7 = approximately 37Wh

That 37Wh is stored energy before conversion losses. It is not a promise that 37Wh will reach the phone’s battery.

Worked capacity figures

Figure Calculation or assumption What it represents
10,000mAh at 3.7V (10,000 ÷ 1,000) × 3.7 Approximately 37Wh of stored cell energy, as shown in Anker’s 2026 guide
Equivalent at 5V before circuit losses 37Wh ÷ 5V Approximately 7,400mAh at the USB-output voltage in Anker’s explanation
Equivalent at 5V after the stated 82% example 7,400mAh × 0.82 Approximately 6,068mAh at 5V in Anker Support’s worked conversion
Combined two-stage efficiency 0.82 × 0.82 Approximately 67% after the bank and phone conversion stages
Illustrative phone 3,200mAh battery with the 67% combined-efficiency assumption Approximately 2.1 estimated charges in Anker Support’s example

These mAh figures must retain their voltage labels. A milliamp-hour value at 3.7V is not directly interchangeable with the same numerical value at 5V. Treat the 82% efficiencies and the resulting 6,068mAh and 2.1-charge figures as assumptions used in Anker’s examples, not specifications that apply to every product.

How to estimate charges for your specific phone

  1. Find the phone’s battery energy. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for watt-hours. If only milliamp-hours are listed, find the battery’s nominal voltage and calculate Wh with (mAh ÷ 1,000) × V.
  2. Find or estimate the bank’s stored energy. Use the bank’s stated Wh when available. Otherwise, a 10,000mAh bank using approximately 3.7V cells is about 37Wh before losses.
  3. Apply a realistic transfer allowance. Anker’s materials place usable capacity in the neighborhood of 60–70% in typical cases, while its worked examples use particular 82% stage assumptions. Use that range for planning only; it is not a guaranteed specification for every model.
  4. Divide delivered energy by phone-battery energy. For example, divide the bank’s estimated usable Wh by the phone’s Wh. Round down if you need a conservative count of complete charges.
  5. Account for partial top-ups. A phone in active use may consume power while connected, so the bank can still be working even when the battery percentage rises slowly. A final top-up from a high state of charge can also be less efficient than an idealized calculation.

If you use a simplified mAh shortcut, compare both batteries at the same voltage and state the efficiency assumption. Dividing 10,000 by the phone’s printed mAh without matching voltage and losses produces an inflated answer.

Factors that change the number of charges

Phone battery size

A larger phone battery requires more watt-hours for a full cycle. Two phones connected to the same bank can therefore receive different numbers of charges even when their battery labels appear similar.

Voltage conversion and electronics

The bank raises its cell voltage to a USB output level, and the phone converts incoming power for its own battery. The two conversion stages explain why the bank’s stored energy is higher than the energy that reaches the cells in the phone. Cable resistance and connector quality add further losses.

Charging mode and output power

USB-C and other outputs can negotiate different voltages, currents and charging protocols. Faster charging can change the operating point of the conversion electronics; the bank’s maximum output and the phone’s accepted input determine what actually occurs. A bank with a high headline capacity may still charge slowly if its port or protocol does not match the phone.

Phone use while connected

Streaming video, navigation, games, hotspot use and bright displays draw energy at the same time the bank is supplying it. The bank may provide a useful top-up without producing a complete additional cycle under those conditions.

Temperature

Very hot or cold conditions can reduce charging performance and alter how the battery-management system accepts power. Anker identifies temperature as one source of variation in delivered capacity.

Wireless charging

An Anker MagGo product listing attributes a 30–45% energy loss to its battery cells and conversion circuitry during charging. That is the statement for that product page, not a universal measurement for every wireless power bank. Wireless charging generally requires more careful comparison because alignment, distance and coil losses affect the energy delivered to the phone.

Wired versus wireless: what to check

For the same nominal capacity, a wired connection usually makes it easier to account for the energy path because the cable and port are specified directly. Wireless models add coil alignment and conversion variables. If you need predictable emergency capacity, compare the manufacturer’s stated output figures and charging conditions rather than relying only on the 10,000mAh headline.

What specifications matter when comparing power banks

Watt-hours are the most useful starting point when comparing products or sizing a bank for more than one device because Wh expresses energy independently of the bank’s internal voltage. Then check the following specifications:

  • Rated output capacity and voltage: confirm whether a published mAh figure refers to the internal cells or to output at 5V, and keep the voltage attached to the number.
  • Maximum output power: verify the wattage available from each port and whether multiple ports share that limit.
  • Ports and compatibility: check USB-C support, other available ports, cable requirements and the charging protocols accepted by your phone.
  • Physical size and weight: a higher-capacity bank generally occupies more space; choose a form that fits the way you carry it.
  • Manufacturer test conditions: note whether capacity is measured at the cell voltage, at a USB output voltage, or under a particular efficiency assumption.

Anker recommends using Wh for more accurate comparisons, especially when the devices or outputs operate at different voltages.

Why a power bank may appear to underperform

The phone does not gain as much percentage as expected

Check whether the phone is actively being used, whether its battery is already near full, and whether the cable is firmly connected. A high-power workload can consume much of the incoming energy before it appears as a percentage increase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The bank display reaches zero early

The bank’s indicator is reporting its own battery-management estimate, not the phone’s battery percentage. Conversion losses, voltage changes and the bank’s reserve for safe operation mean the displayed percentage cannot be translated directly into phone charges.

A wireless session delivers less energy

Reposition the phone on the charging surface and remove cases or accessories that prevent close alignment. Compare the product’s stated wireless-loss information with its wired output rather than assuming the two modes are equivalent.

The bank charges slowly

Inspect the port’s maximum wattage, the cable rating and the phone’s supported protocol. If any one of those limits the connection, the phone may draw less power even though the bank has energy remaining.

Choosing the right capacity for your use

Daily commuting and short trips

A 10,000mAh bank is a compact middle ground for a phone that needs a substantial top-up during the day. Plan around the practical 1.5–2-charge estimate rather than the full 10,000mAh number, and leave margin if you use navigation or entertainment continuously.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Long travel or multiple devices

Calculate the combined Wh requirements of the devices you expect to charge, then allow for conversion losses and reserve capacity. Compare banks by Wh, output wattage and port sharing, not by mAh alone.

Emergency backup

If the bank may sit unused for long periods, capacity is only one consideration. Keep the cable needed by your phone with the bank and check its charge level before travel; a theoretical capacity cannot help if the bank is empty or incompatible with the device.

Bottom line for a 10,000mAh bank

Expect roughly one and a half to two complete smartphone charges in ordinary use. The bank stores about 37Wh when its 10,000mAh rating is based on 3.7V cells, but voltage conversion and charging conditions reduce the energy delivered to the phone. For a phone-specific answer, convert both devices to Wh, apply a conservative 60–70% usable-energy planning range, and round down.
