For a group or several devices that need shared cellular internet, a dedicated hotspot can be a practical travel choice. NETGEAR’s Nighthawk 5G M7 (MH7150) is one concrete option: NETGEAR lists support for eSIM and physical SIM, up to 32 connected devices, and international eSIM plans it says cover 140+ countries. It is a premium device, however, and its listed US price was $499.99 when checked. You still need a compatible data plan, and coverage, speed, battery life, and total trip cost depend on your itinerary and conditions.
When a dedicated travel hotspot makes sense
A portable hotspot uses a cellular connection as its internet backhaul, then shares that connection over local Wi-Fi. Buying the device does not by itself provide mobile data: you need an appropriate plan and service in each destination.
Dedicated hardware is most compelling when several travelers or devices need to share one connection, or when a laptop or other device cannot use a phone’s eSIM. If you are traveling alone with a compatible phone, tethering or a travel eSIM in that phone may avoid carrying and buying another device. Renting a pocket Wi-Fi unit can be worth considering for a short trip if you want to avoid device ownership; compare rental and data charges with the alternatives.
Judge the choice by total trip cost, not the hotspot’s purchase price alone. Include data, taxes, top-ups, and any rental fees, and check the plan’s allowance, validity, speed limits or fair-use terms, tethering rules, and top-up policy.

Its US product page displayed $499.99 when accessed in 2026; NETGEAR’s November 17, 2025 launch announcement also gave an initial MSRP of $499.99. | What to compare | M7 information published by NETGEAR | What it means for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| International eSIM coverage | NETGEAR says its travel eSIM plans cover 140+ countries. | This is a vendor coverage claim, not a guarantee of service, speed, or plan availability in every location. Check the specific destination and plan region. |
| Connected devices | Up to 32 concurrent devices. | This is a manufacturer specification, not an independently verified real-world result. Your usable connection still depends on cellular service and plan terms. |
| Battery life | Up to 10 hours. | This is NETGEAR’s stated maximum, not a promise of runtime under every signal, workload, or setting. |
| Cellular and Wi-Fi | 5G/4G cellular and Wi-Fi 7. | Actual access and speed depend on destination networks, plan, device compatibility, and conditions. |
| US device price | $499.99 displayed on NETGEAR’s US page when accessed in 2026; the same figure was the initial MSRP in its November 17, 2025 announcement. | Confirm the current checkout price and budget separately for data, taxes, and accessories. |
NETGEAR describes the M7’s international eSIM plans as available in 140+ countries, but that should not be read as identical service or terms everywhere. Use NETGEAR’s country-by-country eSIM plan-region guidance to check the exact destinations on your itinerary. NETGEAR’s separate roaming-country support list addresses a different support context; do not treat it as a list of destinations included in a particular travel eSIM plan.

Check compatibility and plan details before you go
- List every destination. Check each country against the specific eSIM plan region and its terms. For a multi-country itinerary, confirm that the same plan covers each leg and any border-crossing restrictions.
- Choose eSIM or physical SIM service. The M7 supports both, according to NETGEAR. If you plan to use a third-party SIM or eSIM, follow NETGEAR’s M7 quick-start and support guidance to confirm activation and compatibility with hotspot/router use.
- Confirm the network fit. Check the specific device variant’s cellular bands and the local network access offered by your plan. A country appearing in a coverage or roaming list does not establish that every network, band, or 5G service will be available.
- Read the data terms. Verify allowance, validity, speed or fair-use limits, hotspot restrictions, and top-up rules for the plan you intend to buy. These details vary; do not infer them from the device specifications.
- Work out the full cost. Add device purchase or rental, data, taxes, and top-ups for the whole trip. Compare that total with phone tethering or a travel eSIM in a compatible phone.
How to choose among a hotspot, phone tethering, and rental
| Option | Best fit | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated hotspot | Several travelers or devices need shared Wi-Fi, or some devices cannot use a phone eSIM. | Device cost plus data, destination support, local network compatibility, plan terms, and the burden of carrying and charging another device. |
| Phone tethering or travel eSIM | A traveler already has a compatible phone and wants to minimize extra hardware. | Phone and plan compatibility, data terms, and whether tethering meets your sharing needs. |
| Pocket Wi-Fi rental | A short trip where avoiding a device purchase matters. | Rental period, data charges, pickup/return arrangements, destination coverage, and total cost. |

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBottom line: match the hardware to the itinerary
The M7 is a plausible premium option if you need a separate device to share cellular data across a group or multiple devices, and its supported plan and network fit every destination. If you only need a connection for one compatible phone, tethering or a phone-based travel eSIM may be simpler. Before committing, verify destination-specific plan support, SIM compatibility, network bands, data terms, and the full trip cost.
