Short answer: A 900Wh portable power station can supply roughly 720Wh to an AC load when you use Jackery Support’s general 80% planning factor. Divide 720 by the device’s average wattage: a 100W load is about 7.2 hours, 200W about 3.6 hours, and 500W about 1.44 hours. Those are estimates, not guarantees; the station’s inverter losses, self-consumption, load cycling, startup demand, output limits and operating conditions can materially change the result.
The runtime formula for a 900Wh power station
Use this planning equation:
Estimated runtime (hours) = rated capacity (Wh) × usable-energy factor ÷ average load (W)
With a 900Wh rating and an 80% general AC factor, the calculation is 900 × 0.8 = 720Wh available for planning. Divide that 720Wh figure by the appliance’s average draw. A device that averages 100W therefore works out to 720 ÷ 100 = 7.2 hours.
The 80% figure is a practical estimate from Jackery Support, dated July 2, 2026, rather than a universal efficiency standard. It accounts broadly for energy that does not reach an AC appliance, including conversion losses and the station’s operating reserve. The source explicitly notes that actual runtime varies with usage and environmental conditions.

900Wh runtime estimates at common loads
The following values are arithmetic examples using the 720Wh numerator. They are not independent laboratory results or promises for every 900Wh model.
| Average load | Calculation | Estimated runtime |
|---|---|---|
| 25W | 720 ÷ 25 | 28.8 hours |
| 50W | 720 ÷ 50 | 14.4 hours |
| 100W | 720 ÷ 100 | 7.2 hours |
| 200W | 720 ÷ 200 | 3.6 hours |
| 500W | 720 ÷ 500 | 1.44 hours (about 1 hour 26 minutes) |
| 1,000W | 720 ÷ 1,000 | 0.72 hours (about 43 minutes) |
If your load is between two rows, divide 720 by its measured or specified average wattage rather than rounding to the nearest example. For instance, a 150W average load gives 720 ÷ 150 = 4.8 hours under the same assumption.
How to estimate your own runtime
- Find the appliance’s average draw. Use the average value when the manufacturer provides one. A maximum or nameplate wattage can overstate the energy used by a device that throttles or cycles.
- Add simultaneous loads. If a laptop averages 60W while a monitor averages 40W, calculate with 100W, not with either device separately. Include chargers and other equipment connected to the station at the same time.
- Choose a usable-energy factor. Use the station maker’s model-specific guidance when available. If you do not have it, label the result clearly as an 80% planning estimate rather than treating 720Wh as a guaranteed deliverable capacity.
- Divide usable watt-hours by average watts. This produces hours. Multiply the decimal portion by 60 to convert it to minutes.
- Check compatibility separately. Runtime arithmetic cannot tell you whether the station can start or continuously operate the appliance. Compare the station’s continuous output and surge rating with the appliance’s requirements.
Why the usable-energy factor is not always 80%
Different manufacturers present different quick-estimate methods. The factor is a modeling choice that reflects the station, the output type and the conditions in which the estimate applies.
| Guidance | Published assumption | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Jackery Support (July 2, 2026) | Use approximately 80% of rated capacity for a general estimate | 900Wh × 0.8 = 720Wh, then divide by average watts |
| Anker SOLIX (2026 guidance) | Uses an 85% quick AC estimate | 900Wh × 0.85 = 765Wh before dividing by average watts |
| BLUETTI Pioneer Na model guidance | 95% depth of discharge, 90% inverter efficiency and about 1.5W self-consumption under stated conditions | Use the model’s own equation, which accounts for the load plus the station’s self-consumption |
Applying the 85% quick estimate to a 100W load would produce 765 ÷ 100 = 7.65 hours, before any additional qualification from the specific model. That is different from the 7.2-hour result at 80%, even though both begin with a 900Wh label.
For the Pioneer Na example, the documented structure is approximately (900Wh × 0.95 × 0.90) divided by (load in watts + 1.5W). At a 100W load, that model-specific arithmetic is about 7.6 hours under its stated conditions. Do not transfer that result or those parameters to another station; they describe that model’s published assumptions.

Wh capacity and W output answer different questions
Watt-hours tell you about duration
A watt-hour is an amount of stored energy. In an idealized calculation, 900Wh could supply 100W for nine hours, but an AC setup cannot normally deliver all 900Wh to the appliance. Conversion losses, reserve energy and the station’s own consumption reduce the practical figure, which is why a planning factor is needed.
Watts tell you whether the appliance can run
Watts describe instantaneous power. A station can have enough stored energy for many hours yet still be unable to power an appliance whose demand exceeds its inverter or outlet rating. As one model-specific example, BLUETTI lists the Pioneer Na at 900Wh and 1,500W output. That 1,500W specification applies to the Pioneer Na; it does not establish the output of every 900Wh station.

Motors and compressors can draw more power when starting than they consume after reaching normal operation. Air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers are therefore poor candidates for a simple capacity-times-0.8 calculation. Check the appliance’s starting demand and the station’s continuous and surge limits before relying on the runtime estimate. A station that cannot handle startup will not run the appliance, regardless of how many watt-hours remain.
Why variable loads make the estimate less certain
The division method works best for stable loads such as a laptop, fan or phone and tablet charger. Many appliances do not draw a constant number of watts. A refrigerator may switch its compressor on and off; a heating element may cycle; a computer may draw different amounts during startup, heavy processing and idle periods.
For a cycling appliance, use its average energy use over the period you care about when that information is available. If you only know the running wattage, the calculation can be useful as a rough upper or lower planning boundary, but it cannot predict the exact runtime. Jackery Support specifically cautions that its simple formula is not suitable for variable or high-startup-power equipment such as air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers.

Example: combining a steady load with a cycling load
Suppose a 60W networking device runs continuously while a second appliance varies between idle and high-power operation. Do not add the second appliance’s maximum number unless it runs at that level continuously. Determine or measure its average draw over the intended period, add 60W, and then divide the chosen usable watt-hours by that combined average. If no average is available, present a range using plausible low and high operating states rather than a single false-precision figure.

The outlet used changes the losses in the calculation. An AC appliance normally requires the station’s inverter, while a device connected through another output path may use a different conversion stage. The manufacturer’s AC factor is therefore not automatically the right factor for every output.
Some station guidance also includes a small amount of power consumed by the station itself. BLUETTI’s Pioneer Na example specifies about 1.5W of self-consumption under its stated conditions and adds that value to the external load in its formula. That matters most at low loads: a 10W device is affected proportionally more by a 1.5W overhead than a 500W device.
When comparing an AC estimate with a DC or USB estimate, use the output-specific instructions for the exact model. If those instructions are unavailable, call the result an approximation and avoid presenting it as a tested runtime.
A practical workflow for a reliable estimate
1. Identify the exact station
Record the model number, rated capacity, continuous output, surge output and the output type you plan to use. Capacity alone is insufficient for an appliance decision.

2. Identify the real appliance demand
Read the appliance specification for running watts and, where relevant, startup watts. For electronics, use an average figure that reflects the intended workload. A plug-in watt meter can help you observe actual draw if the device’s behavior is unknown.
3. Select and document the assumption
Write down whether the estimate uses 80%, 85% or a model-specific formula. Keeping the assumption beside the result prevents a planning number from being mistaken for a guaranteed capacity.
4. Calculate each use case
For one steady device, divide usable watt-hours by watts. For multiple devices, add their average watts first. For cycling equipment, use an average over the required interval or calculate a range.
5. Apply the output and startup check
Confirm that the combined continuous demand is within the station’s output rating and that any startup surge is within its surge limit. This is a pass/fail compatibility check, not a runtime adjustment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches6. Plan for conditions
Temperature, usage pattern and the station’s operating behavior can change the outcome. Follow the exact model’s operating instructions and treat the calculation as a planning range when conditions differ from those used in its published formula.

Worked examples for common questions
How long will a 900Wh station run a 100W device?
Using the general 80% planning factor: 900 × 0.8 = 720Wh, and 720 ÷ 100 = 7.2 hours. This is the direct answer under that stated assumption. A model using an 85% quick AC estimate would calculate 7.65 hours instead, while a model-specific formula could produce another result.
How long will it run a 50W device?
At the same 720Wh planning numerator, 720 ÷ 50 = 14.4 hours. Verify that the station does not impose a minimum-load or idle-consumption behavior that materially changes a very low-power use case.
How long will it run a 500W device?
With the 80% estimate, 720 ÷ 500 = 1.44 hours, or roughly 86 minutes. The appliance must also remain within the station’s continuous output rating, and any startup surge must be supported.
What if two devices run together?
Combine their average draw before dividing. A 100W device plus a 200W device is a 300W average load, so the 80% planning estimate is 720 ÷ 300 = 2.4 hours. If either device cycles, replace its nameplate number with its average over the period.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Dividing 900 by watts and calling it guaranteed runtime. That ignores conversion losses and reserve energy.
- Using the station’s maximum output as its capacity. Output watts describe what it can supply at once; watt-hours describe stored energy.
- Ignoring startup demand. Compressors and motors may fail to start even when the calculated runtime looks long.
- Using a peak or label wattage for a cycling device. Runtime depends on average energy use over time.
- Transferring one model’s formula to another. The Pioneer Na’s 95% depth-of-discharge, 90% inverter-efficiency and 1.5W self-consumption assumptions are model-specific.
- Reporting a single precise number under changing conditions. State the factor, load, output path and environmental qualification alongside the estimate.
What the 900Wh label can—and cannot—tell you
The label gives you a starting energy figure for comparing stations and estimating duration. It does not, by itself, reveal the usable AC energy, inverter efficiency, self-consumption, reserve policy, continuous output, surge capability or behavior under a particular temperature and load pattern.
For a general planning answer, use 720Wh and divide by average watts. For a purchase or emergency-power decision, move from the generic label to the exact model’s specifications and formula. A 900Wh station rated for only a modest output may be unsuitable for a high-wattage appliance, while a higher-output model can still run it for fewer hours than expected if the load is large.
Evidence and limits of these estimates
The figures here combine manufacturer guidance and arithmetic examples. The 80% factor comes from Jackery Support; Anker SOLIX publishes an 85% quick AC estimate; and BLUETTI documents the Pioneer Na’s model-specific formula and its 900Wh, 1,500W specifications. No independent runtime test establishes one exact duration for all 900Wh stations or all appliances. Actual runtime must be verified against the chosen station, appliance demand and operating conditions.
