For Polymarket crypto up/down markets covered by the change, a bot should treat the announced TWAP—not a single end-of-window price tick—as the resolution input. That does not mean the bot should stop using the CLOB to price or execute trades: resolution data determines the outcome, while order-book data describes tradable liquidity. Polymarket’s announcement listed specific markets and averaging windows, but it does not independently establish which feeds are live now or the complete set of affected markets.
What changed in Polymarket’s announced resolution method?
In a Polymarket subreddit announcement titled “To protect market integrity in our crypto up/down markets, we’re updating how these markets resolve,” the platform said selected crypto up/down markets would move from a single price snapshot to a time-weighted average price (TWAP). It listed these averaging windows:
| Announced market duration | Announced TWAP window |
|---|---|
| 5 minutes | 30 seconds |
| 15 minutes | 60 seconds |
| 4 hours | 60 seconds |
The same announcement named Chainlink Data Streams and Polymarket’s public Real-Time Data Streaming WebSocket (RTDS) as routes developers could use to consume TWAP prices. It gave August 4, 2026 as the scheduled mainnet feed and RTDS launch date, and August 7, 2026 at 00:00 UTC as the scheduled start of the change. Those dates have passed, but the announcement alone does not confirm that every component launched as planned, identify every currently affected market, or document current message formats. Treat the schedule as announced scope, not proof of present feed behavior.

Use the specific market’s active rules and applicable resolution feed to determine what price input resolves it. Do not assume every Polymarket market uses TWAP: the announcement names 5-minute, 15-minute, and 4-hour crypto up/down markets, but does not establish the treatment of other durations or market types.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For markets whose rules follow the announced design, represent the stated averaging interval as part of the resolution logic. A strategy can still respond to spot prices or CLOB movements, but those readings are not the resolution criterion merely because they occur near the end of the market. The bot should not substitute an end-of-window tick for the TWAP unless the specific market rules say to do so.
How are the TWAP feed and CLOB different?
The resolution feed and the CLOB answer different questions. A TWAP source is relevant to the price input used to determine an outcome. The CLOB shows the token-specific order book and supports trading decisions, execution, and market-state monitoring. A CLOB last trade or midpoint is not established as the TWAP value for resolution.

| Data source | Role for a bot | Documented details |
|---|---|---|
| Chainlink Data Streams or Polymarket RTDS | Consume the announced TWAP price input for covered markets | Named as developer routes in Polymarket’s announcement; current payload schema, timestamp semantics, latency, and failure guarantees are not established there |
| Polymarket CLOB order book | Inspect tradable liquidity and support execution or market-state checks | Polymarket’s Get order book API reference documents token-specific bids and asks, a snapshot timestamp, minimum order size, tick size, and last trade price |
| Polymarket market and price-history data | Inspect token-specific pricing and historical data | Polymarket Institute’s data guide describes token-specific CLOB price requests, price-history requests, and Data API trades |
These roles are complementary, not interchangeable. Keep the resolution price record separate from the execution price record, and label each with its source and market or token identity. That prevents a trade-monitoring value from silently becoming the bot’s assumed settlement value.
What should change in a bot’s design?
Resolve market rules before selecting a feed
Make feed selection market-specific. At startup, and whenever a market changes, associate the market’s identity with its active rules, duration, outcome tokens, and applicable resolution source. If the bot cannot establish that mapping, it should not assume that a feed or averaging interval applies.

Model the averaging window explicitly
Do not treat “market end” as a single price observation. For a market covered by the announcement, track the relevant TWAP interval as a distinct resolution input. A trading strategy may use faster spot or order-book updates, but the strategy’s signals and the settlement criterion should remain separate in code and logs.
Track feed and book freshness independently
Polymarket’s order-book API provides a timestamped snapshot, while the announcement identifies RTDS and Chainlink Data Streams as TWAP routes. Monitor the age of each input separately rather than assuming that a fresh CLOB snapshot means the resolution feed is current. Record the market identity, token identity where applicable, rule or version information, source, and observed timestamps alongside each value. These are prudent safeguards; the announcement and API reference do not guarantee a particular feed latency or uptime.

Plan for missing, stale, or mismatched data
Before relying on either feed in production, verify its current identifier mapping, payload schema, timestamp meaning, reconnect behavior, and handling of gaps against live official developer documentation. Define what the bot does when updates stop, arrive out of order, or do not match the market it is monitoring. Do not silently carry forward a stale value as though it were a new TWAP observation.
Keep outcome settlement asynchronous
Do not collapse the end of a TWAP interval, market closure, oracle proposal, dispute period, final resolution, and redemption into one “market ended” event. Model them as separate states and wait for the applicable market and oracle lifecycle to advance before treating an outcome as final.

What happens after the price window closes?
Polymarket’s Help Center says markets resolve through UMA’s Optimistic Oracle according to their predefined rules. When a market resolves, trading stops; winning shares receive $1 per share and losing shares become worthless. A proposed resolution can be challenged during the two-hour period described in the Help Center’s dispute guide. That challenge window does not mean every market becomes final immediately when its price-averaging interval ends: the timing from the TWAP window through oracle finality depends on the market and resolution process.
Polymarket’s legacy integration documentation describes the UMA CTF Adapter as a bridge between the Conditional Token Framework market condition and the Optimistic Oracle. Because this is legacy documentation, its operational details should not be generalized to every current market. For bot design, the important separation is between observing the price input, observing the proposed outcome, confirming final resolution, and handling the resulting position.
Does TWAP resolution make a trading bot more profitable?
No performance conclusion follows from the resolution change alone. The announcement specifies a price-resolution method and windows; it does not report bot returns or establish that a TWAP-aware strategy improves performance. A bot can be correctly adapted to the resolution input and still lose money. Treat resolution compliance, execution quality, and strategy performance as separate engineering and evaluation questions.
