If your Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass is not appearing on Nintendo Switch 2, work through Nintendo’s checks in this order: update the console and game, restart, verify the purchase with the Nintendo Account that paid for it, load or redownload the DLC’s Virtual Game Card, and then check the in-game DLC menu and progression requirements. If you still cannot access it, use Nintendo’s separate recovery procedure for a physical or digital copy of Pokopia without deleting your save data.

First, identify what is actually missing

The Expansion Pass is paid downloadable content for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Pokémon Pokopia. It does not include the base game, so you must own the full game as well as the pass. Nintendo sells the pass through its digital storefronts; the physical game-key-card edition of Pokopia is separate and does not itself include the Expansion Pass.

A problem that looks like “missing DLC” can have several different causes. Identifying the exact symptom prevents you from reinstalling software when the real issue is an account mismatch or a story requirement.

What you expect to see What may be happening First check
The pass is not shown as owned in Nintendo eShop The eShop user is not the Nintendo Account that purchased it, or the purchase has not completed Open the pass listing with the buying user and look for Purchased
The pass is owned, but the game cannot use it The DLC Virtual Game Card is not loaded, or the download data is missing Load the pass card from Virtual Game Cards or redownload its data
The dynamic Ditto print recipe is absent The bonus must be claimed through the game’s Downloadable Content menu, and the game needs version 1.1.0 for the recipe Update Pokopia, then use Pokédex (+) > Downloadable Content > Check Items
You cannot enter Bubbly Basin The area has a story and ability gate, not necessarily a failed purchase Learn Dive and complete “Raise the environment level!” in Bleak Beach
You are waiting for a later area Parts 2 and 3 may not yet be released in your market Check Nintendo’s current release information before troubleshooting an unreleased part

Use this troubleshooting order

  1. Update the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
  2. Update Pokémon Pokopia.
  3. Restart the console.
  4. Open Nintendo eShop with the account that bought the pass and confirm that the listing says Purchased.
  5. Load the Expansion Pass Virtual Game Card, or enable an online license and redownload the DLC.
  6. Start Pokopia with the intended player and check the in-game downloadable-content menu.
  7. For Bubbly Basin, meet the Dive and Bleak Beach requirements.
  8. If the pass still fails, follow the physical-copy or digital-copy reinstall path below, preserving save data.

Doing the checks in this order prevents a progression lock or account mismatch from being mistaken for corrupted software. It also avoids buying the pass a second time before you know which account owns the first purchase.

Pokémon Pokopia - Nintendo Switch 2
  • Shape the world and build a cozy new life with Pokémon as a Ditto transformed to look like a human.
  • Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
  • Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
  • Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!
  • Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.

1. Update the Switch 2 system, Pokopia, and restart

Install the latest console update

  1. From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Choose System Update and install any available update.

Keep the console connected to the internet until the update finishes. An outdated system can prevent the current DLC entitlement or Virtual Game Card data from being recognized.

Update the game separately

  1. Return to HOME and highlight Pokémon Pokopia without starting it.
  2. Press + or − on the controller.
  3. Select Software Update, then Via the Internet.

Wait for the update to complete before launching the game. Nintendo’s store information specifies version 1.1.0 for receiving the dynamic Ditto print recipe bonus, so an older build can make that bonus appear to be missing even when the pass is owned.

Restart rather than merely sleeping the console

  1. Press the POWER button.
  2. Open Power Options.
  3. Select Restart.

A full restart refreshes the software and license checks. After it finishes, connect to the internet and continue with the account and Virtual Game Card checks.

2. Confirm the purchase belongs to the current Nintendo Account

A digital purchase is attached to the Nintendo Account used to launch Nintendo eShop. It cannot be transferred to another user. Having several users on one Switch 2 does not make the Expansion Pass available to every account as an individually owned purchase.

  1. Open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
  2. Select the user who originally paid for the Expansion Pass.
  3. Search for the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass and open its product page.
  4. Check the purchase status. A completed purchase should display Purchased, not a price.

If the page shows a price, Nintendo’s stated explanations are that the pass was not purchased on that account or that another user owns it. Switch to the purchaser’s user before attempting another download. Do not buy the pass again until you have checked every Nintendo Account on the console and any purchase confirmation associated with the transaction.

The account check also matters when a family member bought the pass. Start the game with the player profile that should use the content, but perform ownership and Virtual Game Card management with the account that made the purchase. If the purchaser’s account is not available on this console, you cannot establish ownership merely by launching Pokopia with a different profile.

Pokémon Pokopia Standard - Nintendo Switch 2 [Digital Code]
  • Shape the world and build a cozy new life with Pokémon as a Ditto transformed to look like a human.
  • Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
  • Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
  • Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!

3. Load or redownload the Expansion Pass Virtual Game Card

Load the card from the pass listing

  1. In the Expansion Pass product page, choose Virtual Game Cards.
  2. Confirm the console and user shown on screen.
  3. Ensure the Expansion Pass card is loaded on this Switch 2.

On Switch 2, the loaded Virtual Game Card is the key link between a purchased digital item and the software installed on the console. If the card is loaded on another compatible console, move or load it on the console where you play Pokopia.

Use Online License as an alternative

Nintendo provides an online-license route when you do not want to manage a loaded card in the usual way:

  1. Open the purchasing user’s profile settings.
  2. Find Online License Settings and enable Use Online License.
  3. Open Virtual Game Cards.
  4. Select the Nintendo Account that bought the pass.
  5. Choose the Expansion Pass, then select Options > Download Data.
  6. Confirm the download on the HOME Menu and wait for it to finish.

Nintendo’s general Switch 2 guidance says eShop is not the redownload route for an item already purchased. Redownload it by loading its Virtual Game Card from HOME or by using the download-data option above. If the download completes but the game was open during the process, close Pokopia, restart the console, and launch it again so the title checks the newly available data.

4. Check the DLC from inside Pokémon Pokopia

  1. Start Pokémon Pokopia with the player user you intend to use.
  2. Press A at the title screen to continue.
  3. Open the Pokédex by pressing +.
  4. Select Downloadable Content at the bottom right.
  5. Choose Check Items.

This menu is where Nintendo directs players to retrieve the dynamic Ditto print recipes and related purchase bonus items. The print and wallpaper recipe are a bonus connected to the purchase; they are not the Bubbly Basin area itself. If the menu does not return the items, confirm the game is updated to version 1.1.0, restart after loading the Virtual Game Card, and repeat the check with the purchasing account’s content properly loaded.

Do not confuse the Pokémetal bonus with Expansion Pass access

Nintendo also describes an emailed Pokémetal bonus code that is redeemed through Mystery Gifts. The Mystery Gifts feature becomes available after approximately 30 minutes of play. That waiting period applies to the bonus-code redemption process, not to ownership of the Expansion Pass and not to the requirement for entering Bubbly Basin. If your complaint is that the area is locked, follow the Dive and Bleak Beach steps instead of waiting for Mystery Gifts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Why you cannot enter Bubbly Basin

Bubbly Basin has a progression gate. Nintendo’s requirement is explicit: you must first learn Dive and complete the important request “Raise the environment level!” in Bleak Beach. Dive was added in a free software update, so having the paid pass alone does not bypass this story requirement.

Work through the gate

  1. Continue the main game until Dive becomes available.
  2. Travel to Bleak Beach.
  3. Complete the important request named “Raise the environment level!”.
  4. Return to the underwater entrance for Bubbly Basin and try it again.

If you have not learned Dive or have not completed that request, the locked entrance is expected behavior rather than proof that the Expansion Pass failed to install. Completing the request on one save should not be confused with activating the entitlement on another Nintendo Account; the purchase and progression checks are separate.

6. Check whether the content has actually been released

Nintendo listed Expansion Pass Part 1, Bubbly Basin, as released on August 4, 2026. The same Nintendo information scheduled Part 2 for late 2026 and Part 3 for 2027. The support article used for these troubleshooting instructions stated that Parts 2 and 3 had not yet been released when it was prepared.

Those dates and availability statements can change. Before treating a later section as missing, check the current Nintendo product or support information for your market. Do not expect an unreleased part to appear in the DLC menu, and do not infer a failed purchase merely because only Part 1 is accessible. A pass can be correctly owned while future parts remain unavailable until Nintendo releases them.

7. Reinstall without deleting your save data

If updates, account verification, Virtual Game Card loading, in-game checks, and progression requirements do not resolve the problem, Nintendo separates the recovery steps by the type of Pokopia copy you use. The important distinction is between software data and save data: delete the former when instructed, and preserve the latter.

Physical game-key-card copy

  1. Close Pokopia and safely suspend or end the software as Nintendo’s menu prompts require.
  2. Remove the physical game card from the console.
  3. Open the software’s data-management options and delete the game’s software data. Do not delete the save data.
  4. Reinsert the game card. When prompted, allow the game software to download again.
  5. Update Pokopia to the latest version.
  6. Load or redownload the Expansion Pass Virtual Game Card and download the DLC again.
  7. Start the game and check the DLC menu and any required progression gates.

The physical card identifies the game, but it does not replace ownership of the separately purchased digital Expansion Pass. You still need the Nintendo Account that bought the pass and its Virtual Game Card or online-license authorization.

Digital copy

  1. Close Pokopia.
  2. Delete the game’s software data from the console’s data-management controls, leaving save data intact.
  3. Redownload Pokémon Pokopia using the Nintendo Account that owns the game.
  4. Install all available game updates.
  5. Load the Expansion Pass Virtual Game Card or use the Online License download route.
  6. Launch Pokopia and check Pokédex (+) > Downloadable Content > Check Items, then test the content after meeting any story requirements.

Do not choose an option labeled for deleting save data. If the menu wording on your system differs, stop and verify that you are removing only installed software before confirming. Reinstalling the base game cannot transfer the pass to a different Nintendo Account or correct a game-and-DLC market mismatch, so repeat the ownership and region checks afterward.

Region, account, and compatibility checks

Nintendo’s general Switch 2 guidance says software and add-on content are intended to be used in combinations from the same sales or distribution country. A game and DLC bought from different countries may not work together, and Nintendo warns that such combinations are outside its compatibility checks and after-sales-service coverage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Compare the sales country of your Pokopia copy with the country of the Nintendo eShop account that bought the Expansion Pass.
  • Be especially careful with imported physical game-key cards and accounts registered to another market.
  • Do not assume that a different-country pairing always fails; Nintendo’s guidance is general rather than a Pokopia-specific compatibility matrix.
  • If the regions do not match, contact Nintendo for the exact combination before buying replacement content.

A price displayed in eShop is an account-ownership issue to resolve first. A loaded card that still produces no content can indicate a download, software-version, progression, or regional-compatibility issue instead. Do not treat changing the console’s region as a guaranteed fix; Nintendo’s guidance focuses on matching the sales or distribution countries of the software and add-on.

Common symptoms and the right fix

Symptom Likely explanation Action
eShop shows a price The active eShop user did not buy the pass, or no purchase was completed on that account Change to the purchaser’s user and verify Purchased
Pass is purchased but not listed in-game Virtual Game Card is not loaded or DLC data is absent Load the card, enable online license if needed, and choose Download Data
Ditto print recipe is missing Bonus has not been claimed through the DLC menu, or the game is below version 1.1.0 Update and use Check Items
Bubbly Basin entrance is underwater and locked Dive or the Bleak Beach request is incomplete Learn Dive and complete “Raise the environment level!”
Part 2 or Part 3 is absent The part may not be released yet Check Nintendo’s current release status
Everything appears correct but content remains unavailable Installed data may need to be rebuilt, or the game and DLC markets may not match Use the correct reinstall path, then contact Nintendo Support

When to contact Nintendo Support

Contact Nintendo Support after completing the update, account, Virtual Game Card, in-game, progression, and applicable reinstall steps. Include the Nintendo Account that made the purchase, whether your copy is physical or digital, the country or market of the game and DLC, the exact menu where the pass fails to appear, and whether eShop shows Purchased. This information lets support distinguish an entitlement problem from a download, region, or game-progress issue.

The reviewed Nintendo guidance does not identify a current widespread Pokopia outage or a known universal defect. Do not assume an outage is responsible for one console’s missing DLC without a current Nintendo service notice.

Quick checklist before contacting support

  • Switch 2 system software is current.
  • Pokopia is updated through Software Update > Via the Internet.
  • The console has been restarted, not merely put to sleep.
  • The purchasing Nintendo Account sees Purchased in eShop.
  • The Expansion Pass Virtual Game Card is loaded, or Use Online License and Download Data have been used.
  • The in-game path Pokédex (+) > Downloadable Content > Check Items has been checked.
  • For Bubbly Basin, Dive and “Raise the environment level!” in Bleak Beach are complete.
  • The game and DLC come from compatible sales or distribution markets.
  • If reinstalling, only software data—not save data—was selected for deletion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Nintendo eShop show a price instead of Purchased?

You are probably viewing the Expansion Pass with a Nintendo Account that did not buy it, or the purchase was not completed. Switch to the account that paid for the pass and check its product page before purchasing again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I redownload the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass?

Load the pass’s Virtual Game Card on your Switch 2. Alternatively, enable Use Online License, open Virtual Game Cards for the purchasing account, choose the pass, then select Options > Download Data. Nintendo says eShop itself is not the redownload route for an item already purchased.

Why is my Ditto print recipe missing when I own the pass?

Update Pokopia to version 1.1.0, restart after loading the Expansion Pass card, then open Pokédex (+) > Downloadable Content > Check Items. The print and wallpaper recipe are purchase bonuses, not the Bubbly Basin area.

Why can’t I enter Bubbly Basin?

The entrance is progression-gated. Learn Dive and complete the important request “Raise the environment level!” in Bleak Beach, then return to the underwater entrance.

Does the Expansion Pass include Pokémon Pokopia?

No. It is paid DLC for the Nintendo Switch 2 game, so you need the full base game separately. A physical game-key card does not replace ownership of the digital pass.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

I bought the game and DLC in different countries. Will they work?

Nintendo says software and add-on content are intended to match by sales or distribution country, and mismatched combinations may not work or receive compatibility support. Nintendo does not publish a Pokopia-specific matrix in the guidance, so contact support for your exact combination.

Will reinstalling Pokopia erase my progress?

Nintendo’s recovery steps distinguish software data from save data. Delete only the installed software data and preserve save data; do not select a menu option that deletes saves.

Are Parts 2 and 3 broken if they do not appear?

Not necessarily. Nintendo listed Part 2 for late 2026 and Part 3 for 2027, and its support guidance said both were unreleased when prepared. Check the current release status for your market before treating them as missing.

The Bottom Line

Most missing Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass cases are resolved by using the purchasing Nintendo Account, loading or redownloading its Virtual Game Card, updating and restarting the Switch 2, and claiming bonuses through the in-game DLC menu. Bubbly Basin additionally requires Dive and the Bleak Beach request “Raise the environment level!”. If reinstalling is necessary, delete software data only and keep your save data. Contact Nintendo Support when these checks fail or when the game and DLC markets do not match.
