Pokémon Hyper Emerald: Lost Artifacts is a fan-made Pokémon Emerald ROM hack whose v5.7 release combines the Hoenn story with Sinnoh as post-game content. You do not start in Sinnoh: you reach it after completing the Hoenn portion. To play the English + QoL version, you need its matching v5.7 bugfix 2 base ROM, the project patch, and a Game Boy Advance emulator; the project distributes the patch, not the ROM.
What is Pokémon Hyper Emerald?
Hyper Emerald: Lost Artifacts is a fan-made modification of Pokémon Emerald, not an official Pokémon release. The English + QoL project credits the underlying hack to Destvol, Satochu, Popy, Potato, Hurricane, Feiyixiang, and others. Its v5.7 release retains a Hoenn main story and adds the whole Sinnoh region as post-game content. The project overview describes the added region and features at the English + QoL guide.

What does the game add?
Alongside the Hoenn-to-Sinnoh structure, the guide lists Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax, a trainer-level system, more than 100 side quests, and selectable difficulty modes. Nn-Exe’s project README describes its Pokédex guide as covering 905 species and forms; that is a guide-coverage figure, not an independently verified count of what can be caught in the game.
Difficulty is a one-time choice
The mechanics guide describes four difficulty modes, including a hidden Lunatic mode. You choose a mode at the clock in the bedroom, and the choice cannot be changed afterward. Challenge and Lunatic modes restrict items in trainer battles; Lunatic also gives trainers perfect IVs and full EVs. Read the mode details before starting if those restrictions matter to you.
#1 Best Overall
- Shape the world and build a cozy new life with Pokémon as a Ditto transformed to look like a human.
- Use other Pokémon’s moves, like Bulbasaur’s Leafage, to revitalize and navigate the world around you.
- Meet and befriend more Pokémon as you help nature flourish.
- Gather materials to create items and furniture, till the fields to grow delicious crops, build homes for the Pokémon you meet, and more—there’s so much to do!
- Experience a world with varied weather, real-time days and nights, and other surprises.
Travel and unfinished content
Hoenn uses its familiar travel approach, along with a ride device and a News Tracker for roaming Pokémon. In Sinnoh, Ride Pokémon can fly between towns you have already visited. The guide also cautions that some Sinnoh locations are decorative and that the World Championship tournament is a placeholder in v5.7, so the region should not be read as making every location or activity fully playable.
Is Hyper Emerald complete?
The project’s FAQ describes v5.7 as a finished release containing Hoenn, Sinnoh, and the post-game. That does not mean every part has been exhaustively checked in English: the FAQ says the English patch has not been played through all forty-plus hours and that odd text may remain in deep post-game screens. The guide also warns that glitches or bugs may occur. Treat it as a substantial fan project rather than a guaranteed bug-free release.

What you need to play the English + QoL version
- The exact base ROM:
Hyper EMR LA v5.7 bugfix 2.gba, listed by the project repository as 33,554,432 bytes (32 MB) with SHA-1f785bed9d9e82e8da13ea4a5ad747e3ea4ec7ba9. - The project’s patch: use the English + QoL patch associated with that specific base file.
- A patching environment: the documented process uses Python 3 and requires no extra packages.
- A GBA emulator: the guide uses mGBA as its reference; it also names RetroArch with the mGBA core. Another GBA emulator may work, but the project documentation does not establish compatibility with every emulator.
The patch is not interchangeable with vanilla Pokémon Emerald, another Hyper Emerald version, or an older community English translation. The repository and guide do not distribute the ROM. The project FAQ states: “This site and the repository do not distribute ROMs. Get the hack from its original release thread and patch it yourself.” See the project repository and project FAQ for the project’s distribution and setup information.

How to patch and launch the game
- Obtain the specific v5.7 bugfix 2 base file through a lawful source. Check that its filename, size, and SHA-1 match the project documentation.
- Get the English + QoL patch from the project repository. Do not use a patch intended for a different base version.
- Follow the repository’s patch instructions with Python 3. The documented process does not require additional Python packages. The project setup guide is at the patching and emulator guide.
- Open the resulting patched game in mGBA, RetroArch with the mGBA core, or another GBA emulator. Keep a backup of your save, as the guide warns that bugs may remain.
Where do you get the ROM?
The project repository provides the patch, not a ROM download. Its FAQ directs readers to obtain the hack from its original release thread and patch it themselves. The sources do not establish an official commercial cartridge or a verified retailer; this is an emulator-and-patch setup, not a conventional retail game purchase.
