Game Freak Pokémon director Shigeru Ohmori is leading Ame Nochi Hare Onna—also reported in English as Rainy Day, Sunny Girl—a free-to-play magical-girl RPG for iOS and Android. Its central loop combines turn-based battles with laundry: outfits provide characters’ abilities, become dirty through use, and must be washed and dried before they can be used again. Real-world weather changes how quickly the clothes dry and can affect combat.
What is Ame Nochi Hare Onna?
Ame Nochi Hare Onna is a new, original mobile RPG from Game Freak, the studio behind Pokémon. The game has been announced for Japan, with a winter release window, but an exact date has not been given. It is not a Pokémon-branded game or a continuation of an existing Pokémon storyline.

Ohmori has worked on Pokémon projects for more than two decades. GamesRadar identifies him as a director associated with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet; this project moves him into a new setting, cast and format. In comments reported from a Famitsu interview, Ohmori described the goal as creating “forms of expression that can only be achieved in a completely original game.”
How the laundry-based gameplay works
Build a team of magical girls
Players assemble a group of magical girls to patrol a city. Their opponents are garbage-shaped yokai, fought in turn-based battles. The reports do not yet specify the full roster, progression system or combat rules, so the announced concept is more definitive than the detailed mechanics.

Outfits are the characters’ equipment
Each outfit determines powers and abilities. That makes clothing more than a visual customization layer: choosing which outfits are available is part of preparing a team for a fight.
Used outfits become dirty
Outfits accumulate dirt over time. Once they need cleaning, players must wash them before the associated powers can be restored for use. This introduces maintenance and downtime into the RPG’s normal battle cycle.
Clean clothes dry in real time
Washing does not make an outfit immediately ready. Clean clothes must dry, and the drying process runs in real time. Sunny conditions make drying faster, while rain slows it. The design therefore gives players a reason to check back later rather than completing every action instantly.

Does real weather affect battles?
Yes. Weather is not limited to the laundry timer. Real-world conditions can influence combat decisions, and characters aligned with the current weather may receive an advantage when conditions match. The available reports do not define the size or duration of those bonuses, or list every weather type, so players should not assume a specific damage formula yet.
GamesRadar reports that Ohmori saw live weather tracking and the gameplay loop as meshing “most beautifully.” The result is a routine built around checking the forecast, deciding which clothing powers to prepare, and choosing when to return after laundry has dried.

Ohmori has described the game as “firmly rooted in real life, with a sense of everyday reality,” according to GamesRadar’s report on the Famitsu interview translation. Laundry and weather turn that idea into a mechanic: the player’s real day supplies the timing for in-game preparation.

Release window, pricing and device requirements

What readers should expect
This is best understood as a routine-driven RPG rather than a conventional game designed for uninterrupted grinding. The announced idea asks players to make a team, use clothing-based abilities, clean the clothing after use and return when weather-dependent drying is complete. Sunny and rainy days can change both preparation time and battle choices.
That combination is the reason the project has attracted attention: it uses a real daily condition—weather—to connect equipment management, waiting and turn-based strategy in a wholly original Game Freak setting. Until more details arrive, the confirmed scope is a Japan-announced iOS and Android release in winter, with international availability, technical requirements, exact monetization and a precise date still unannounced.
