Jak & Daxter leads a recent reader poll on which classic PlayStation franchises should return, followed by Resistance, with Killzone and Sly Cooper tied next. But the poll is a snapshot of one publication’s readers—not a measure of what all PlayStation players want—and Sony has not confirmed a revival of any of these series.
Which franchises ranked highest in the recent poll?
Push Square’s May 17, 2026 poll asked, “Which classic PlayStation franchises would you most like to see return?” Among its 21 choices, the leading results were:

The poll received 3,350 votes and let each participant select up to three franchises. Those numbers describe the choices of participating Push Square readers; they are not representative estimates of PlayStation owners or players generally. The option list also included series such as Ape Escape, Gravity Rush, MotorStorm, SOCOM, Twisted Metal, and WipEout. See the poll and its full choice list.
What does the poll say about what fans want?
It offers a useful starting point for a discussion, not a definitive ranking of fan demand. Because respondents chose up to three options, the percentages reflect a multi-select poll rather than a single-choice vote. And because participants selected themselves, the result can’t establish the preferences of the wider PlayStation audience.

A previous Push Square poll shows why comparisons need care. In 2020, a poll asking “What PlayStation franchises should Sony bring back on PS5?” drew 33,136 votes, with Sly Cooper at 51% and Jak and Daxter at 23%. Participants could also choose up to three options, but the poll had a different choice set and ran in a different context. Is Sony actually bringing old franchises back?
Not on the evidence of the current report. A May 2026 Push Square article attributed to industry leaker Nate the Hate the claim that Sony was “exploring and considering” some older, unused intellectual property. The article cautioned that consideration does not mean a game is in development. That claim is not an official announcement, and it does not confirm a revival of Jak & Daxter, Resistance, Killzone, Sly Cooper, or another named series. Sony’s public statements describe broader strategy rather than specific revivals. In a 2021 PlayStation.Blog interview, then-PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst said, “New IP is incredibly important to us. New IP is the lifeblood of gaming.” He also discussed established franchises and PlayStation’s legacy as part of the studio portfolio. What kind of return would make sense?
A poll can identify interest, but it does not say what form a comeback should take. For any candidate, the more useful question is whether its defining idea still works—and what scale of project would serve it best:
- Remaster or collection: Makes sense when the original games remain appealing and the main need is easier access on current platforms.
- Remake: A stronger fit when a series has a compelling foundation but its controls, presentation, or structure would benefit from substantial rebuilding.
- Sequel: Works when the original premise still has room to grow and a new entry can respect what made the series distinct without simply repeating it.
- Reboot or smaller licensed project: Could offer a new interpretation or a limited-scope return, but should still preserve a recognizable connection to the franchise.
There is also a development question: should a PlayStation studio make the game, should Sony work with an external developer, or could a license allow a third party to take it on? Push Square reported in March 2025 that 72% of more than 1,000 participating readers supported Sony licensing more dormant IP. That is support within a self-selected readership poll, not proof of broad fan consensus or evidence Sony has chosen licensing as its strategy. Read the licensing poll report.

How should we judge the contenders?
The poll result is one input. A more considered ranking can weigh the strength of that signal alongside each series’ creative prospects:
- Distinctive hook: Does the franchise have an identity that would stand out today?
- Room for a new design: Can its central idea support a modern game without losing what made it memorable?
- Development fit: Is there a suitable internal studio, external partner, or licensing route?
- Right-sized return: Would the audience be better served by a collection, remake, full sequel, reboot, or smaller project?
These are editorial criteria, not published findings about Sony’s plans or player demand. The available polls are useful prompts for the conversation; they do not establish which series Sony should revive or what form a return should take.
