Yes. Pocket Casts now has an official native app for Android TV and Google TV. The app arrived in Pocket Casts 8.21 and was reported as available on October 14, 2026, giving subscribers a remote-friendly way to play audio and video podcasts on a television without casting from a phone.
What the Android TV release includes
Pocket Casts’ TV app is designed for set-top boxes and televisions rather than a phone screen mirrored to a TV. Pair it with your existing Pocket Casts account and it synchronizes the listening data you already use elsewhere.
- Followed podcasts and folders
- Existing playlists and the Up Next queue
- Search and podcast discovery
- Listening progress and episode states, including played, archived and starred
- Audio and video podcast playback
- Playback speed, Trim Silence and Volume Boost
- Playback that continues when the app is minimized or closed
A “Made for TV” area highlights video podcasts and other promoted or featured content. The interface is operated with a television remote, so browsing, queue management and playback do not depend on keeping a phone connected.
Compatible devices and requirements
Pocket Casts says the app requires a Google TV or Android TV device running Android 9 or later. Its examples include:
#1 Best Overall
- 4K UHD Resolution & Audio Support: Xiaomi 4K UHD resolution supports 4K content, while HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support is available for compatible content. The TV also supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio formats
- Powerful 6nm Platform Performance: Powered by a 64-bit 6nm high-performance platform, featuring a quad-core A55 CPU (up to 2.5 GHz) and large memory (2 GB + 32 GB), it ensures smooth operation
- High Speed Wi-Fi 6 Connectivity: Supports Wi-Fi 6 (requires a Wi-Fi 6-enabled router), utilizing OFDMA and MU-MIMO technologies to provide greater bandwidth and significantly improved transmission speeds, enabling instant playback of online content
- Smart Google TV Entertainment Center: Built-in Google TV integrates personalized recommendations for movies, shows, and more from various apps and subscriptions, along with powerful cross-app search for a customized entertainment experience
- Convenient Voice Control: Use the voice button on the 360° Bluetooth remote to use Google Assistant for voice search, playback control, and smart home management. Easily cast content from your phone/tablet to the TV via Google Cast. Easy to install
- Google TV Streamer
- Chromecast with Google TV
- Nvidia Shield
- Other Android TV boxes running Android 9 or newer
Availability can vary by device model, operating-system version and region. If your hardware does not meet the Android 9 requirement, the app may not appear as compatible in Google Play.
How to install Pocket Casts on Google TV or Android TV
- Open the Google Play Store on your television or streaming box.
- Choose Search and enter Pocket Casts.
- Select the official Pocket Casts app and choose Install.
- After installation, select Open, or launch Pocket Casts from your TV’s apps row.
If the app is hard to locate using the TV’s on-screen keyboard, open the Google Play Store in a web browser, sign in to the same Google account used on the television, search for Pocket Casts and choose one of your connected TV devices as the installation target. The device must still satisfy Pocket Casts’ Android 9-or-later requirement.
Signing in and synchronizing your account
The recommended sign-in method is the QR code displayed by the TV app. Scan it with your phone and follow the prompts to pair the television with your Pocket Casts account. Email-and-password sign-in is also available if you prefer to enter credentials with the remote.

- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)

- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
Once signed in, the TV app can retrieve your subscriptions, folders, playlists and Up Next queue. It also synchronizes listening progress and episode states, so an episode played on the TV can be marked played on your phone and other Pocket Casts apps. The TV app is therefore an extension of the account rather than a separate, empty installation.
What the TV app cannot do
The biggest limitation is that the app streams episodes but does not download them. It cannot use downloads saved on your phone, and offline playback is unavailable. A playlist filtered to downloaded episodes will consequently be empty on the TV.
Pocket Casts also leaves several management and power-user functions to its mobile, desktop or web apps:

Casting remains useful when a podcast app has no TV application, but Pocket Casts’ native client changes how the television is controlled and how state is retained.
| Capability | Pocket Casts native TV app | Phone-to-TV casting |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Remote-oriented interface on the TV | Phone or tablet acts as the controller |
| Account data | Subscriptions, queues, playlists and progress sync after sign-in | Depends on the casting session and phone app |
| Media | Audio and video podcasts | Depends on the phone app and cast target |
| Offline playback | Not supported; episodes stream | Depends on whether the phone can play a downloaded episode while casting |
| Playlist management | Existing playlists can be used, but they cannot be created or edited | Playlist controls remain on the phone |
| Phone dependence | Not required after pairing | Normally required to select and control content |
The native app is the better fit for a shared television or a listener who wants to pick up playback with a remote. Casting may still be preferable when you need downloads, bookmarks, transcripts or other features not implemented on the TV client.

Troubleshooting installation and playback
Pocket Casts does not appear in the Play Store
- Check the device’s Android TV or Google TV version and confirm it is Android 9 or later.
- Verify that the television or box is signed in to Google Play and connected to the internet.
- Use the browser Play Store method and select the connected TV device as the target.
- Check whether the model or region is supported; Google Play can hide apps that are incompatible.
Your subscriptions or queue are missing
Confirm that the QR pairing or email sign-in used the same Pocket Casts account as your phone. The TV app can only synchronize the account that is currently signed in.
A downloaded-only playlist is empty
This is expected behavior, not a failed sync. TV playback is streaming-only, and downloads are not shared from a phone.

Bottom line for Android TV and Google TV owners
Pocket Casts is now a full native TV playback option for compatible Android TV and Google TV hardware. Install it from Google Play, pair it with the QR code, and your subscriptions, queues and progress follow you to the big screen. Plan to stream episodes rather than download them, and keep a phone, desktop or web app available for playlist editing and the other features the TV version does not include.
