Black Desert: Traveler Edition is the PlayStation 4 game identified in a 3 April 2025 GamingBible report as moving to PlayStation 5 with a free upgrade. The report says both people who bought the PS4 edition and people who claimed it through PlayStation Plus qualify, while the PS4 release would stop being available to download or play. A PS5 is still required to use the upgraded version; “no PS Plus needed” describes the upgrade entitlement, not a free copy for every player.
What the reported policy means
According to GamingBible’s 3 April 2025 report, Black Desert: Traveler Edition is being replaced on PlayStation by a PS5 version. Existing owners would not have to pay an upgrade fee. The reported eligibility routes are:
- A player purchased the PS4 version.
- A player claimed the PS4 version through PlayStation Plus.
That makes this policy different from a typical subscription-only benefit. A PlayStation Plus claimant is described as retaining an upgrade entitlement even though the claim came through the subscription service. However, the report does not say that anyone without a purchase or prior claim can download the game for free.

Players who purchased Black Desert: Traveler Edition
People who bought the PS4 edition are included in the reported free-upgrade group. The report does not distinguish between digital and disc purchases for Black Desert, so the exact process for a physical copy is not established.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Players who claimed it through PlayStation Plus
GamingBible specifically says PlayStation Plus claimants qualify. A subscriber quoted in the report reacted: “So the folks that claimed it through PS Plus get the free upgrade?” That reaction reflects the unusual part of the policy, but it is not an official Sony or Pearl Abyss statement.
People who never owned or claimed the PS4 edition
The available report does not establish a free entitlement for people who never purchased or claimed the PS4 game. “No PS Plus needed” should therefore be read as “an active PlayStation Plus subscription is reportedly not required to redeem the upgrade after you already hold an eligible license.”

What transfers to PS5?
| Item | Reported treatment | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| PS4 ownership or claim | Qualifies for the free PS5 upgrade | Reported by GamingBible on 3 April 2025; official Store wording is not provided |
| Save data | Reported to carry over | The report does not explain the transfer procedure or regional restrictions |
| Additional purchases | Reported to be retained | The report does not list which item types are included |
| PS4 game access | Reportedly ends when the PS5 version arrives | The report says the PS4 edition would no longer be available to download or play |
Existing PS5 owners were reported to receive an automatic update. The report does not specify whether “automatic” means a background download, an automatic version conversion in the library, or an update that still requires the player to start the download manually.
Do you need a PS5?
Yes. The reported upgrade target is PlayStation 5, so a PS5 console is required to run it. A PS4 owner can reportedly retain the entitlement, save data and qualifying purchases, but cannot use the PS5 version until a PS5 is available. The report does not describe a PS4 version remaining playable after the transition; instead, it says the PS4 edition would stop being available to download or play.

What happens when the PS4 version is retired?
The reported change is more than a normal optional upgrade: the PS4 version would no longer be downloadable or playable once the PS5 version arrived. If you have progress on PS4, the reported save-data carryover is important because it is the mechanism intended to preserve that progress. Keep the PS4 save until the PS5 migration is complete, and avoid assuming that a cloud save alone proves eligibility; the report does not document the account or save-transfer checks.
How this differs from Days Gone Remastered
GamingBible’s 14 February 2025 coverage of Days Gone Remastered described a different rule. Its reported $10 PS5 upgrade applied to purchased digital or physical copies but excluded PlayStation Plus redemptions.

| Upgrade example | Purchased copy | PlayStation Plus claim | Reported price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Desert: Traveler Edition | Eligible for free upgrade | Eligible for free upgrade | Free, according to the 3 April 2025 report |
| Days Gone Remastered | Eligible for upgrade | Excluded | $10, according to the 14 February 2025 report |
The Days Gone description comes from secondary reporting, including a Reddit statement reproduced by GamingBible: “Game redemptions via PS Plus are not eligible for the $10 upgrade to the remastered version on PS5.” That statement is attributed to Reddit user kabirsingh84, not to Sony or another official spokesperson, so it should not be treated as a universal PlayStation policy.

What remains unconfirmed
The reports do not establish an exact release or shutdown date, regional eligibility, the final PlayStation Store language, the required account steps, or whether the policy has changed since publication. They also do not provide a current availability status. Check the game’s PlayStation Store listing and announcements from PlayStation or Pearl Abyss before relying on the entitlement, especially if your copy came from a different region or your subscription claim has lapsed.
