You can play the full version of Core Keeper on Steam for free through October 12, 2026, including online multiplayer. Steam lists the free-play period as ending at 10:00 a.m. Pacific; check the live store page for the cutoff in your region. When temporary access ends, the game and your save data remain in your Steam library, but you must buy the game to keep playing.
When does the Core Keeper free weekend end?
The official event announcement dates the free weekend from Thursday, October 8, through Monday, October 12, 2026, but does not specify a time zone. Steam’s store page gives the more precise cutoff: October 12 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific. Because this is a limited-time offer, use the Steam listing to confirm that access is still available and check the displayed timing.
What can you play during the free weekend?
The full game, not a short demo
The official Core Keeper event announcement says the offer includes the full game experience, including online multiplayer. Steam describes Core Keeper as a mining sandbox adventure for 1–8 players, so you can explore alone or join friends online during the event.

Explore, build, and take on bosses together
The game’s underground world is built around exploring biomes, gathering resources, crafting gear, and developing a base. The announcement highlights activities including boss fights, farming, fishing, magic, and uncovering secrets. It also describes a world with 9 biomes and 7 sub-biomes. Those systems give a group several ways to spend its free-play window, whether the goal is to push into new areas or improve a shared home base.

What happens to your game and save after October 12?
According to the event announcement, Core Keeper and your save data remain in your Steam library after the free weekend, so you can pick up where you left off if you purchase the game. You cannot continue playing without owning the full version. Steamworks’ Free Weekends documentation explains the general platform mechanics: the temporary free package is removed when an event ends, and continued play requires the full game.
Should you buy it before the offer ends?
If you and your friends enjoy exploration, crafting, and cooperative base-building, the free weekend lets you try that loop together before deciding whether to keep playing. Consider how much time your group has left in the event, whether everyone wants to continue afterward, and the current price and sale deadline on Steam.
