If Planet Zoo 2 research is not progressing, there is no confirmed Planet Zoo 2-specific cause or fix in the official information available for the game’s October 13, 2026 launch. Frontier’s published troubleshooting guidance is aimed at PC launch, crashing, and performance problems—not a documented research-progress fault.
Start by identifying the exact research entry, platform, game version, and whether its status remains unchanged during normal play. PC players can apply Frontier’s general file, driver, Windows, overlay, and antivirus checks. Console players should confirm the game is updated and then report the issue to Frontier with screenshots or video. Do not assume staff assignments, buildings, power, connectivity, save corruption, or mechanics from the original Planet Zoo apply to the sequel.
What “research not progressing” means in Planet Zoo 2
The phrase can describe several different situations, and separating them prevents you from applying the wrong fix. A task may appear frozen, may be waiting for conditions that the game does not clearly explain, or may be displaying normally while the underlying simulation has stopped responding. At launch, the public documentation does not establish the research rules, expected durations, prerequisites, or a known research-specific defect for Planet Zoo 2.

Record the research topic and its exact displayed state, then play long enough to establish that the value, bar, percentage, or wording has not changed at all. Do not invent a time threshold: no official expected duration was published in the material available for this issue. Note what you were doing while checking, such as running the zoo, switching menus, or loading a different save.

A condition that is unknown rather than broken
If the entry uses wording such as locked, waiting, unavailable, or requires an action, treat that as an information problem until Frontier documents the condition. There is no verified list of Planet Zoo 2 research prerequisites that can be safely substituted from community guides or from the first Planet Zoo.
A wider game malfunction
If the game freezes, crashes, loses input, shows missing interface elements, or fails to save, the symptom is broader than research. Frontier’s PC troubleshooting article covers those general stability and performance categories. Its recommendations may improve the underlying game installation, but they are not presented as a guaranteed research repair.
What official information confirms—and what it does not
Frontier’s Planet Zoo 2 PC support article, dated September 25, 2026, recommends checking system requirements, verifying files through Steam, reviewing graphics-driver changes, updating Windows, disabling overlays, checking antivirus interference, and contacting support when the problem remains. The article does not describe the research system or identify a research-progress bug.
Frontier game director Gareth Hughes announced Planet Zoo 2 for PC and Xbox Series X|S on October 13, 2026, with Standard and Deluxe editions. The announcement discusses zoo management and staff morale but does not define research behavior or troubleshooting steps. It also includes an incidental description of the Ocean Sunfish weighing up to 2,000 kilograms; that figure has no bearing on research progression.
A separate Frontier support note for the original Planet Zoo says a Steam Workshop blueprint can be unavailable when it uses research items the player has not unlocked. That note concerns blueprint access in the first game. It is not evidence that a Planet Zoo 2 research task is stalled, and it should not be used as a sequel diagnosis.

Consequently, no research-specific Planet Zoo 2 cause, confirmed bug report, patch number, or versioned fix is established here. That is an evidence boundary, not proof that no issue exists; launch information can change rapidly, so check Frontier’s current support and issue notices when you report the problem.
First checks for every platform
These checks establish whether the symptom is reproducible and give support useful facts. They are general troubleshooting actions, not documented research mechanics.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Confirm the product and platform. Write down that you are playing Planet Zoo 2, not the original Planet Zoo, and specify PC or Xbox Series X|S. Include the edition if you know it.
- Check the game’s update state. Allow the platform to finish any pending update before testing again. Record the game version shown by the launcher or title screen; do not rely on memory of a patch number.
- Capture the research entry. Take a screenshot showing the research name, its displayed progress or status, and any warning text. If the status changes only after a particular action, record a short video that shows the sequence.
- Reproduce the symptom in a controlled way. Load the same save, perform the same ordinary gameplay actions, and note whether the status remains identical. Avoid changing several unrelated settings at once, because support will need to know which action preceded the symptom.
- Check other saves or a new test session only if safe. If you already have another save, observe whether the same entry behaves differently there. Do not delete or overwrite saves to perform this check; preserve the affected file for support.
- Separate progress from display. Compare the visible research status before and after a normal session and note whether other simulation elements continue to update. A static interface with a responsive game points to a different report than a complete simulation freeze.
PC: Frontier’s documented general checks
Frontier’s September 25, 2026 PC guidance is the only official troubleshooting material identified for the launch. Apply the relevant steps in a deliberate order and state in your support ticket that they are general PC checks, not a research-specific remedy.
Check system requirements
Compare the computer with the requirements listed by Frontier for Planet Zoo 2. Record the processor, graphics card, installed memory, Windows version, and available storage. If the machine is below the stated requirements, performance or loading faults may complicate the symptom, but the requirements page does not establish that inadequate hardware causes a research bar to stop.
Verify the Steam installation
In Steam, open Planet Zoo 2’s Properties and use the option to verify the integrity of the installed files. Let the process complete, allow Steam to reacquire any files it reports, and launch the game again. Note the result and any files replaced. This checks for damaged or incomplete installation data; Frontier does not say that it repairs research data specifically.

Review graphics-driver changes
Check whether the problem began immediately after a graphics-driver update or rollback. Frontier advises reviewing graphics drivers as part of general PC troubleshooting. Use the driver package appropriate for your graphics hardware, record the driver version, and test again after any change. Do not describe a driver update as a proven research fix.
Recommended Free Tools
Update Windows
Install pending Windows updates, restart the computer, and test the same save. Record the Windows build and the date of the restart in your notes. This addresses the operating environment covered by Frontier’s support guidance; it does not reveal hidden research prerequisites.
Temporarily disable overlays and capture tools
Turn off nonessential overlays or background capture tools for one controlled test, then restore them afterward. Examples include platform overlays, chat overlays, performance monitors, and recording software. Record exactly which tools were disabled. If the research display changes, report the observation rather than claiming a universal conflict.
Check antivirus interference
Review antivirus or endpoint-security notifications for blocked or quarantined Planet Zoo 2 files. Follow your security product’s safe allow-list process only if you understand the risk and can identify the legitimate game files. Frontier lists antivirus settings among its general checks; it does not identify a particular security product or a research-file exclusion.
Retest after each meaningful change
Run one test after verification, another after driver or Windows changes, and another after overlay or antivirus changes. Keep a short log with the date, game version, save used, change made, and result. This prevents several simultaneous changes from obscuring the cause.

Xbox Series X|S: what you can establish
Planet Zoo 2 was announced for Xbox Series X|S as well as PC, but the located Frontier troubleshooting article is specifically for PC. No console-specific research-progress checklist, prerequisite list, or confirmed fix is established in the available official material.
- Confirm that the console has installed the latest Planet Zoo 2 update and that the title screen reports the version you tested.
- Record the exact research entry and status, then reproduce the behavior in the same save without changing unrelated settings.
- Test whether the rest of the game responds normally. Note freezes, missing menus, crashes, or save errors separately from an unchanged research value.
- Preserve the affected save and capture screenshots or a short video before contacting Frontier. Include the Xbox model, game edition, version, and the steps that reproduce the symptom.
Do not apply PC-only instructions such as Steam file verification to an Xbox installation. If the issue persists, use Frontier’s support channel and identify it as an Xbox Series X|S Planet Zoo 2 research-progress problem.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to report the issue so Frontier can investigate it
A precise report is more useful than a claim that “research is broken.” Frontier’s PC guidance asks for additional details and supporting screenshots or footage when a problem persists; the same evidence is useful when you contact support about the console version.
Include the minimum identification
- Game title: Planet Zoo 2.
- Platform: PC or Xbox Series X|S.
- Edition: Standard or Deluxe, if known.
- Game version and operating-system version on PC.
- Graphics hardware and driver version on PC.
- The affected save or zoo, without deleting the original.
Describe the reproduction path
Write the actions in order: which save you loaded, where you opened the research screen, the exact entry selected, what status appeared, what normal gameplay followed, and what remained unchanged. State whether the behavior occurs every time or only once. If you tested another save, identify that result separately.

Use a screenshot that includes the complete research panel rather than a cropped progress bar. Add a video when the status changes after a sequence of actions or when the game becomes unresponsive. Include system details requested by Frontier’s support form and mention every general PC check you completed, along with its result.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Keep the report’s scope narrow
Do not combine unrelated crashes, graphics complaints, and research behavior into one vague paragraph. Open separate entries when the symptoms have different reproduction steps. This helps support determine whether the research display is part of a broader stability problem.
How to judge community claims and proposed fixes
Launch-day discussions often mix the original Planet Zoo with the sequel. Treat a workaround as unverified unless it names Planet Zoo 2, identifies the same platform and version, and provides a reproducible result. A claim about assigning a particular staff member, building, power source, zoo mode, internet connection, or save-file edit is not established by the official information available here.
The original game’s Workshop-blueprint guidance is a useful example of why context matters: an item being unavailable because its research requirements are locked is not the same as an active research task failing to advance. Do not turn that first-game note into a Planet Zoo 2 instruction.
Likewise, generic driver cleaners, paid utilities, registry changes, or streaming tools have no substantiated connection to this symptom. They add risk or cost without documented evidence that they repair research progression. Prefer reversible checks, preserve saves, and report the exact observation.
Decision table: choose the next action by symptom
| Observed situation | Best next action | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|
| The game crashes, freezes, or has missing interface elements | Use Frontier’s general PC checks when on PC; document the failure and contact support if it continues | Official general launch/performance guidance |
| The research entry is visible but its value never changes | Record the entry, platform, version, save, and reproduction steps; submit screenshots or video | No confirmed Planet Zoo 2-specific fix |
| The entry says it is locked or waiting | Capture the exact wording and request clarification rather than importing first-game assumptions | No verified sequel prerequisite list |
| The issue appears only on PC after an update or with overlays enabled | Test file verification, driver review, Windows updates, and one overlay-free run | Officially documented as general PC checks |
| The issue appears on Xbox Series X|S | Confirm the title is updated, preserve the save, capture evidence, and contact Frontier | No console-specific research remedy established |
What a confirmed fix would need to establish
A reliable solution should identify the Planet Zoo 2 version, platform, exact symptom, and the action that changes the outcome. A future Frontier issue notice or patch note could establish those details. Until then, distinguish three levels of confidence in your notes:
- Documented: Frontier’s general PC checks and its request for detailed reports with supporting material.
- Observed: a repeatable change in your own save after one controlled action.
- Speculative: a community explanation that lacks a version, platform, or reproducible evidence.
This labeling keeps a personal observation useful without presenting it as a universal repair.
Bottom line
For Planet Zoo 2 research not progressing, begin with identification and evidence rather than an assumed mechanic. PC players can follow Frontier’s broad launch/performance checks, while Xbox players should avoid PC-only procedures and document the symptom for support. No official, research-specific cause or confirmed fix was established for the October 13, 2026 launch, so the most dependable next step for a reproducible stall is a detailed Frontier report containing the platform, version, research entry, save context, steps, and screenshots or footage.
