Planet Zoo 2 launches on PS5 on 13 October 2026, expanding Frontier’s zoo-management formula with fully aquatic and flying species, customizable aquariums and aviaries, and conservation-focused Wildlife Reserves. Those additions make it a substantial sequel on paper, but the available launch information does not establish PS5 frame-rate performance, control quality, accessibility, or whether the game earns the promotional claim that it is “Frontier’s most advanced zoo simulation.”
This review therefore separates confirmed product features from questions that require hands-on testing. If you want a deeper simulation with more habitat types and conservation objectives, Planet Zoo 2 is a promising PS5 proposition; if stable large-zoo performance or polished controller navigation is your priority, wait for independent testing.
What is new in Planet Zoo 2?
The sequel keeps the central management loop: construct habitats, care for animals with distinct needs and behaviors, satisfy visitors, train and motivate staff, balance income, and complete conservation projects. The major expansion is ecological variety. Frontier advertises species that live fully in water or fly, together with habitat tools designed around those animals rather than treating them as ordinary exhibits.

Customizable aquariums
Aquariums are described as complete habitats. Their construction includes filtration systems and staff airlocks, so aquatic exhibits are part of the zoo’s operational infrastructure rather than decorative tanks placed on a path. The practical questions—how difficult filtration is to maintain, how much space systems consume, and how clearly the PS5 interface communicates water quality—are not answered by the launch materials.

Aviaries for flying animals
Planet Zoo 2 adds fully flying species and customizable aviaries. Frontier describes structural supports that generate covers, plus guest walk-through aviaries where it is safe to do so. That should create a different building problem from a conventional habitat: the player must manage vertical space, visitor movement, and animal safety at the same time.
Wildlife Reserves
Wildlife Reserves provide a conservation-focused layer. The advertised objective is to restore habitats and release animals into customizable reserves through global conservation projects. This gives the sequel a purpose beyond increasing visitor numbers, although the available information does not establish how long these projects take, how much agency players have over restoration, or whether reserve progression is separate from the main zoo economy.

How the management simulation works
Frontier’s descriptions present several systems that interact continuously:
- Animal welfare: habitat design and care must meet each species’ needs.
- Guest satisfaction: visitor experience affects ratings and the ability to expand.
- Staff operations: morale and training are part of the management equation.
- Finances: income must fund construction, employees, and conservation work.
- Conservation: projects and animal releases add goals beyond commercial growth.
The important review question is whether these systems produce useful trade-offs or merely more checklists. Official descriptions establish the features, not their balance, tutorial quality, or late-game depth.

Modes and online requirements
Career, Franchise, and Sandbox
Planet Zoo 2 lists Career, Franchise, and Sandbox modes. Career is the structured route through the simulation; Sandbox emphasizes unrestricted construction; and Franchise connects progression with animal trading and other player activity. Frontier Workshop support adds player-created builds and blueprints, giving builders a way to share designs.
PlayStation account requirement
The PlayStation Store listing says online features require a PlayStation account. The published information does not define every offline capability or identify which individual modes depend on a network connection. Check the in-game and storefront requirements before assuming that Franchise, Workshop access, or trading will work offline.

The $15 US difference buys the Deluxe Upgrade Pack. Frontier says that pack contains six additional animal species and exclusive animal signs. The publisher’s 28 May 2026 suggested prices were £39.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 for Standard and £54.99 / $64.99 / €64.99 for Deluxe; regional storefront prices and availability can change.

Frontier describes the preorder Bonus Content Pack as the Toucan Eat Shop and Signage, three unique animal donation bins, and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall. This is a time-limited offer, so confirm eligibility on the live PS5 listing rather than assuming every purchase includes it.
How Planet Zoo 2 compares with the original
The clearest advertised difference is breadth. The sequel adds aquatic and flying animals, dedicated aquarium and aviary construction, and Wildlife Reserve restoration to the original habitat-and-management foundation. That is a meaningful expansion in systems and building space, but there is no independent evidence yet for better controls, deeper animal behavior, improved interface readability, or superior performance on PS5. A fair comparison should test those areas in equivalent zoo sizes rather than infer them from the feature list.
PS5 performance and review verdict
No measured PS5 frame rate, resolution result, stability report, load-time test, or accessibility assessment is established in the available launch material. Consequently, it would be misleading to promise a performance score or repeat Frontier’s “most advanced” description as an independent verdict.

On confirmed features alone, Planet Zoo 2 is aimed at players who want a larger management canvas and more varied habitats than a conventional land-animal zoo can provide. Aquariums, aviaries, and reserves could make the sequel a stronger long-term sandbox, while Deluxe is principally a content choice: six extra species and exclusive signs for $15 more in the US. Wait for hands-on PS5 testing if controller workflow, large-zoo simulation speed, or online dependencies will determine your purchase.
